{"id":21627,"date":"2018-05-07T11:26:26","date_gmt":"2018-05-07T15:26:26","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=21627"},"modified":"2018-07-11T09:13:10","modified_gmt":"2018-07-11T13:13:10","slug":"natural-resources-police-celebrates-150th-anniversary-at-sandy-point","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/05\/07\/natural-resources-police-celebrates-150th-anniversary-at-sandy-point\/","title":{"rendered":"Natural Resources Police Celebrates 150th Anniversary at Sandy Point"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>&#8220;Great Outdoors Maryland&#8221; 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 12<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/05\/DSC_2907.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-21630\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/05\/DSC_2907-300x247.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of officer and K-9\" width=\"350\" height=\"257\" \/><\/a>To recognize the 150th anniversary of the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/nrp\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Natural Resources Police<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> invites the public to a free open house 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 12, at <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/southern\/sandypoint.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sandy Point State Park. <\/a><\/p>\n<p>The celebratory event, \u201cGreat Outdoors Maryland,\u201d will showcase the missions of law enforcement agencies and affiliated conservation partners.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe want to give residents and visitors the opportunity to see the many ways we all work together to conserve and protect the state\u2019s natural resources,\u201d Natural Resources Police Superintendent Col. Robert K. \u201cKen\u201d Ziegler Jr. said. \u201cIn addition to commemorating our agency\u2019s history, this event will provide an opportunity to share with the public who we are and what we do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/05\/DcmaK0KVMAAebvR.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-21633 alignleft\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/05\/DcmaK0KVMAAebvR-232x300.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of Great Outdoors Maryland poster\" width=\"232\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/05\/DcmaK0KVMAAebvR-232x300.jpg 232w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/05\/DcmaK0KVMAAebvR-768x994.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/05\/DcmaK0KVMAAebvR-791x1024.jpg 791w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/05\/DcmaK0KVMAAebvR.jpg 816w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 232px) 100vw, 232px\" \/><\/a>The event will feature demonstrations and displays that highlight the history and mission of the Natural Resources Police, from its roots as the State Oyster Police Force in 1868 to the present day. Patrol boats from across the state will be at the park\u2019s marina along with Natural 1, the department helicopter. K-9 dogs, the tactical response team and dive unit will display the tools of their trade.<\/p>\n<p>Other participating agencies include the U.S. Coast Guard, the State Fire Marshal\u2019s bomb squad, Maryland Transportation Authority Police, Baltimore County Police, the Anne Arundel County Fire and Rescue Department and Queen Anne\u2019s County first responders.<\/p>\n<p>Participating conservation groups include: the Oyster Recovery Partnership, Coastal Conservation Association Maryland, the Humane Society of the United States and Tri-State Bird Rescue and Research.<\/p>\n<p>Food trucks and other vendors will be on-site.
