The state park offers biking, boating, camping and fishing opportunities, and also includes a nature center, park store and swimming pool.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->The department has partnered with the county and town on a long-term strategy to establish a land-based trail connection that includes local and state lands properties.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe department is constantly looking to conserve and protect sensitive and targeted areas that benefit our communities and the environment,\u201d Maryland Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said. \u201cThis acquisition accomplishes both while aiding our mission to expand outdoor recreation and public access.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>This mostly-forested property, featuring about one-half mile of frontage on the scenic Pocomoke River, will be managed by the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Forest Service<\/a>.\u00a0The acquisition was funded by <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/land\/Pages\/ProgramOpenSpace\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Program Open Space<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Program Open Space Acquisition Benefits Environment and Outdoor Recreation The Board of Public Works\u00a0today\u00a0unanimously voted to approve the\u00a0Maryland Department of Natural Resources\u00a0acquisition of\u00a0224.5 acres in Worcester County as an addition to Pocomoke State Forest.
