{"id":20689,"date":"2018-03-26T09:00:42","date_gmt":"2018-03-26T13:00:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=20689"},"modified":"2018-03-23T14:49:18","modified_gmt":"2018-03-23T18:49:18","slug":"new-department-award-recognizes-black-bass-conservation-efforts","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2018\/03\/26\/new-department-award-recognizes-black-bass-conservation-efforts\/","title":{"rendered":"New Department Award Recognizes Black Bass Conservation Efforts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Tournaments Recognized for Best Practices<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/03\/bass.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright  wp-image-20712\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2018\/03\/bass-300x193.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of black bass\" width=\"350\" height=\"216\" \/><\/a>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> announces a new award to help promote black bass conservation.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/\/Pages\/bass\/bass-conservation.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Director&#8217;s Black Bass Conservation Award<\/a> will recognize bass fishing tournament directors who exemplify conservation with special recognition from the department and eligibility to receive fishing supplies.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The purpose of the award is to spread knowledge of <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/bass\/Angler-Portal.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">black bass conservation<\/a> and watercraft safety, in an effort preserve the sport for years to come.<\/p>\n<p>The award also recognizes organizers who include youth anglers in their sportfishing tournaments.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis award aims to educate, promote and recognize the importance of black bass conservation,&#8221; said biologist Joseph Love, who developed the new recognition program. &#8220;The best practices we are highlighting will improve the survival rate of fish released, and help assure the sport&#8217;s popularity in Maryland, now and well into the future.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p> In order to qualify for the award, tournament directors should adhere to the department&#8217;s award criteria\u00a0and submit an application by May 1, 2018.
