{"id":19165,"date":"2017-12-13T10:00:54","date_gmt":"2017-12-13T15:00:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=19165"},"modified":"2017-12-13T15:01:37","modified_gmt":"2017-12-13T20:01:37","slug":"preseason-trout-stocking-begins-in-december","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/12\/13\/preseason-trout-stocking-begins-in-december\/","title":{"rendered":"Preseason Trout Stocking Begins in December"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Over 300,000 Fish Being Raised for Stocking<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/9\/8562\/16186379858_243fd4427c.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of trout being stocked into stream\" width=\"350\" height=\"234\" \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> will begin preseason stocking for the spring 2018 trout season as early as the end of December.<\/p>\n<p>The early trout stocking will now include several impoundments that will receive their annual allotments in a single stocking, which will provide greater fishing opportunities for anglers throughout the winter season.<\/p>\n<p><!--more-->\u201cPreseason and spring stocking is an exciting time for anglers across the state,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fishing and Boating Services<\/a> Director Dave Blazer said. &#8220;With hundreds of thousands of trout being released, this provides a unique angling experience for anyone at any level.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Department staff at the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/hatcheries\/powell.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Albert Powell<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/hatcheries\/bear.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Bear Creek<\/a>\u00a0and <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/hatcheries\/Mettiki.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Mettiki<\/a>\u00a0hatcheries are raising about 308,000 brown, golden and rainbow trout for the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/fishing\/seasons-minimum-sizes-daily-creel-possession-limits-2\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">upcoming spring season<\/a>. More than 130 sites are scheduled to be stocked. Among them, weekly stocking will occur at Antietam Creek, Bear Creek, Lake Artemesia and\u00a0South Branch Patapsco River at River Road.<\/p>\n<p>The stocking schedule and daily updates are available <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/trout\/stocking.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">online.<\/a>\u00a0Printed versions of the schedule are available at the department&#8217;s <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_centers.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">regional service centers<\/a> and <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_agents.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">license agents<\/a>.
