{"id":19094,"date":"2017-12-12T11:00:57","date_gmt":"2017-12-12T16:00:57","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=19094"},"modified":"2017-12-12T11:32:54","modified_gmt":"2017-12-12T16:32:54","slug":"community-resilience-grants-now-available","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/12\/12\/community-resilience-grants-now-available\/","title":{"rendered":"Community Resilience Grants Now Available"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Department Seeks Local Proposals to Enhance Resiliency and Sustainability<\/em><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 360px\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/9\/8512\/29806350116_8be132b2f7_b_d.jpg\" alt=\"Photo of the Conquest Preserve Living Shoreline\" width=\"350\" height=\"346\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Conquest Preserve<\/p><\/div>\n<p>Local communities and nonprofits are invited to\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/funding\/fundingopp.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apply for funding<\/a>\u00a0from the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0to prepare for coastal flooding, storms and other climate-related impacts, and to enhance community resiliency and sustainability through natural, nature-based and green infrastructure.<\/p>\n<p>New this year, local entities may also apply for design of a restoration project that addresses coastal, floodplain or stormwater impacts.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe department aims to support local communities as they prepare for climate impacts and related weather changes,\u201d Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said. \u201cWe are seeking innovative projects and proposals that mitigate flooding and storm damage while improving water quality and resiliency within the Chesapeake Bay watershed.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Proposals for\u00a0Community Resilience Grant program may be submitted under one of the following three phases:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Phase 1: Understand<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Open to local governments to enhance understanding of infrastructure, people and natural resources that are at risk of flooding caused by rain or tidal events.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Phase 2: Plan<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Open to local governments integrating vulnerability assessments into existing planning processes or pursuing sustainable floodplain and stormwater management.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Phase 3: Implement<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Open to local governments and nonprofits designing green, natural or nature-based infrastructure projects that address climate, floodplain or stormwater impacts.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Information sessions will be held Jan. 16, 2018, at 11 a.m. at the Talbot County Library in Easton; and Jan. 18, 2018, at 10 a.m. at the Maryland Department of Natural Resources building in Annapolis.
