Enter the world of <a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/09\/22\/dancing-deception-cannibalism\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Maryland\u2019s spiders<\/span><\/a> to learn more about the perennially misunderstood and tremendously beneficial arachnid.<\/p>\n<p>Also featured is the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/09\/22\/bird-brains\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">story of the raven<\/span><\/a>\u2014the \u201cgrim, ungainly, ghastly, gaunt and ominous bird of yore\u201d immortalized in Edgar Allan Poe\u2019s poetic masterpiece. Far from being sinister, this striking animal is among the most resourceful and intelligent birds.<\/p>\n<p>Although if you do have an interest in the other-worldly, one of our feature stories will send you some pre-winter chills. You can find some of Maryland\u2019s allegedly haunted <a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/09\/22\/parks-in-the-dark\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">public lands<\/span><\/a> for an off-the-beaten-path adventure.<\/p>\n<p>For unwanted visitors of the more corporeal variety, the Natural Resources Police has new service to <a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/09\/22\/wildlife-calls-reserve-officers-relieve-dispatch-overload\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">report wildlife issues<\/span><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Another new program we\u2019re highlighting is the <a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/09\/22\/a-hunting-we-will-go\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"color: #0000ff\">Apprentice Hunting License<\/span><\/a>, just in time for the fall and winter hunting seasons. Available to anyone who has never held a hunting license before, this program will allow individuals to try the sport before deciding whether to pursue a traditional license.<\/p>\n<p>Fall is also the time when we must beware the real danger of wildfires, and remember those that protect us.
