{"id":16903,"date":"2017-09-11T09:25:20","date_gmt":"2017-09-11T13:25:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=16903"},"modified":"2017-09-19T11:27:26","modified_gmt":"2017-09-19T15:27:26","slug":"prince-georges-county-photographer-wins-2017-photo-contest","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/09\/11\/prince-georges-county-photographer-wins-2017-photo-contest\/","title":{"rendered":"Prince George&#8217;s County Photographer Wins 2017 Photo Contest"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Top Entries Chosen from Record Number of Submissions<\/em><\/p>\n<div style=\"width: 4795px\" class=\"wp-caption aligncenter\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4354\/37110124925_6a14d144d3_o_d.jpg\" alt=\"Photo by Nikunj Patel\" width=\"4785\" height=\"2765\" \/><p class=\"wp-caption-text\">Photo by Nikunj Patel<\/p><\/div>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> has announced the winners of the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/photocontest.aspx\">2017 Natural Resources Photo Contest<\/a>, with the grand prize going to Nikunj Patel of Laurel for his stunning photo of an American Wigeon spreading its wings in wintry blue waters.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>This year\u2019s grand prize package includes $500, a 2018 <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/annualpass.aspx\">Maryland State Park and Trail Passport<\/a>, a five-year subscription to <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/dnrMagazine.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Natural Resource magazine<\/a> and five copies of the 2018 calendar with the winning image displayed on the cover.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cCongratulations to the winners and thanks to everyone who submitted a photo to our annual contest,\u201d Natural Resource Secretary Mark Belton said. \u201cOnce again we&#8217;ve received an amazing display of the everyday natural wonders found in Maryland.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>About 1,500 photos were submitted by 295 photographers in this year\u2019s contest. In addition to the overall grand prize winner, the judges selected first through third place winners in four seasonal categories\u2014winter, spring, summer and fall.<\/p>\n<p>Still to be determined is the &#8220;Fan Favorite,&#8221; which will be chosen by popular opinion on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/MarylandDNR\">department\u2019s Facebook page<\/a>. Fans of the photo contest are encouraged to \u201cLike\u201d and &#8220;Share&#8221; their pick between now and Sept. 30.<\/p>\n<p>The first place winners will receive a park passport, a two-year <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/dnrMagazine.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">magazine subscription<\/a> and five copies of the 2018 calendar. Second place winners will receive a one-year magazine subscription and five copies of the calendar. Third place and fan-favorite winners will receive a complimentary copy of the calendar. Every winner and the fan favorite will have their images published in the calendar.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><a data-flickr-embed=\"true\"
