This weekend, you can choose from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.aacountyfair.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Anne Arundel County Fair<\/a>\u00a0(Sept. 13-17) in Crownsville, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.charlescountyfair.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Charles County Fair<\/a>\u00a0(Sept. 14-17) in La Plata, or the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.thegreatfrederickfair.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Great Frederick Fair<\/a> (Sept. 15-23), which runs for nine days.<!--more-->The most obvious indicator of autumn\u2019s arrival, the changing of the foliage, is still a few weeks away for most of the state, though Mountain Maryland is where leaf color changes are seen first, with Garrett County\u2019s foliage beginning to turn around the end of September and peaking toward the middle of October.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/public.govdelivery.com\/accounts\/MDDNR\/subscriber\/new?qsp=CODE_RED\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Sign up today<\/a>\u00a0to receive weekly reports showcasing the Old Line State\u2019s vibrant fall foliage and the best autumn festivals or call 800-LEAVES1.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-17072 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/09\/Sept-16-copy-1.jpg\" alt=\"Map of weekend events\" width=\"600\" height=\"323\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/09\/Sept-16-copy-1.jpg 841w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/09\/Sept-16-copy-1-300x162.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/09\/Sept-16-copy-1-768x414.jpg 768w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 600px) 100vw, 600px\" \/><\/p>\n<p>If you\u2019re near Washington County, be sure to attend the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/planyourvisit\/event-details.htm?event=033F4506-1DD8-B71B-0B8E5A4F3ACD7EE2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">155th Antietam Battle Anniversary Weekend<\/a> in Sharpsburg for tours, living history demonstrations and hikes Sept. 16 and 17. The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/anti\/learn\/historyculture\/150nationalcemetery.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">150th Anniversary of the Antietam National Cemetery<\/a> will be also be marked with a great ceremony Sept. 17. Take advantage of a trip on the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.visitmaryland.org\/scenic-byways\/antietam-campaign\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Antietam Campaign Trail Scenic Byway<\/a>, a 126-mile trip on rural roads connecting several small towns from White\u2019s Ferry to Sharpsburg.<\/p>\n<p>Art and history come to life at the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.hagerstownmd.org\/901\/City-Park-Fall-Fest\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Hagerstown City Park Fall Fest &amp; Porchfest<\/a>\u00a0Sept. 16\u00a0(10 a.m. \u2013 3 p.m.) in Washington County. Four museums and historic sites in the park come together to offer hands-on activities for all ages. Enjoy art, living history, relics of antiquity, rides, games, live entertainment and more.<\/p>\n<p>In western Washington County <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/western\/fortfrederick.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fort Frederick State Park<\/a> hosts \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/09\/11\/one-fort-three-wars-at-fort-frederick-state-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">One Fort \u2013 Three Wars<\/a>.\u201d Living history demonstrations begin at 10 a.m. on both Sept. 16-17. Discover the role the fort played during the French and Indian War, American Revolution and Civil War.<\/p>\n<blockquote>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>\u201cPoolesville is a gem in a haystack\u2026smack in the center of Montgomery County\u2019s 93,000-acre Agricultural Reserve\u2026surrounded by russet fields and barns, pastures, orchards, farmland and open space.\u201d &#8211; Audrey Hoffer <\/em><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.poolesvilleday.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Poolesville Day<\/a> (10 a.m. \u2013 4 p.m.) is a free family festival Sept. 16, which features live bands, carnival rides and attractions, local artisans and award-winning food.<\/p>\n<p>On the Eastern Shore of Maryland, you&#8217;re invited to join <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/eastern\/janesisland.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Janes Island State Park<\/a> staff and other volunteers for a beach cleanup\u00a0Sept. 16 (9 a.m. &#8211; noon). Transportation to and from the island as well as collection logs and trash bags will be provided.<\/p>\n<p>In Queen Anne&#8217;s County, you can check out\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.corsicariverconservancy.org\/event\/corsica-awareness-day\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Corsica River Day<\/a>\u00a0Sept. 17 (noon to 4 p.m.) at Corsica River Yacht Club in Centreville. Sponsored by the Corsica River Conservancy, the event features free kayaking and canoeing, fishing derby, pony rides, petting zoo, face painting, pumpkin art\u200b, live bluegrass band and food vendors. The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/NaturalAreas\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Natural Areas<\/a> initiative seeks to identify the best remaining areas.
