They will join other crews from the mid-Atlantic region in Colorado over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>MDS #1 has been assigned to the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/inciweb.nwcg.gov\/incident\/5341\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deer Gulch Fire<\/a>. The\u00a0Centennial State is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.nifc.gov\/fireInfo\/nfn.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">contending<\/a> with five large wildfires.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>MDS #1 is composed of representation from various <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> units and area fire departments:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Forest Service<\/a>: 13<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Park Service<\/a>: 3<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\"><a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Wildlife and Heritage Service<\/a>: 1<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li>\n<div class=\"gmail_default\">Human Resources: 1<\/div>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>Fire Service: 2<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Maryland Forest Service has participated in mobilizing wildland firefighters throughout the United States since 1974 as part of a cooperative agreement with the U.S. Department of Agriculture Forest Service.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Maryland&#8217;s first 20-person wildland fire crew of 2017, MDS #1, has been dispatched to battle wildfires in the Rocky Mountain Area of Colorado.
