Come explore Crisfield from the pristine white sand beaches of <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/eastern\/janesisland.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Janes Island State Park<\/a> to the historic Depot, literally built on the bedrock of oyster shells from the Chesapeake Bay.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Summer events<\/strong><br \/>\nSomers Cove hosts several <a href=\"http:\/\/somerscovemarina.com\/events.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">events<\/a> throughout the boating season. The Freedom Fest on the Fourth of July presents live bands, great seafood and wondrous fireworks over the marina\u2019s harbor. The annual J. Millard Tawes <a href=\"http:\/\/somerscovemarina.com\/events\/july-20th-40th-annual-j-m-tawes-crab-clam-bake-4500\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Crab and Clam Bake<\/a>, an event for families as well as politicians, is held on the third Wednesday in July. This annual bake is an all-you-can-eat sea-food festival held in the marina\u2019s very own Crab Bowl.<\/p>\n<p>Celebrating its 70th anniversary, the highlight of the 2017 events calendar is the <a href=\"http:\/\/somerscovemarina.com\/events\/september-2nd-3rd-4th-5th-69th-annual-hard-crab-derby-fee-varies-by-day\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">National Hard Crab Derby and Fair<\/a>. Starting with the Miss Crustacean and Little Miss Crustacean pageant on the Thursday before Labor Day, the fair culminates with some of the best waterman on the bay competing in a boat docking contest that ranks among the best in the Chesapeake Bay. Learn to crab like the professionals. Then, bring them back to the dock to arrange to get them cooked. You\u2019ll enjoy the freshest seafood dinner you\u2019ll ever experience.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Island life<\/strong><br \/>\nSomers Cove is also the eastern hub for visitors to <a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2016\/03\/20\/saving-smith-island\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Smith<\/a> and Tangier islands\u2014two inhabited islands <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nps.gov\/cajo\/index.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">first mapped<\/a> by John Smith himself\u2014in the center of the Chesapeake Bay whose culture, accent, and dialect date to the late 1600s. We have daily tour boat departures from the marina to both islands.
