{"id":15261,"date":"2017-05-31T14:41:22","date_gmt":"2017-05-31T18:41:22","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=15261"},"modified":"2017-06-08T10:55:20","modified_gmt":"2017-06-08T14:55:20","slug":"summer-rockfish-season-begins-june-1","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/05\/31\/summer-rockfish-season-begins-june-1\/","title":{"rendered":"Summer Rockfish Season Begins June 1"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Striped Bass Fishing Expands Baywide<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/6\/5164\/30066381701_f0547bda66.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"234\" \/><\/p>\n<p>Anglers wanting to get in on this year\u2019s striped bass fishing season will have more areas to fish starting June 1.<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0announced the official opening of the summer\/fall striped bass season with no exclusions on where anglers can catch the state fish.<\/p>\n<p>All areas of the Chesapeake Bay, including tidal rivers and tributaries, will be fair\u00a0game beginning Thursday.<br \/>\n<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Even though many of the larger striped bass have already left the bay heading to cooler waters further north, many of the smaller rockfish remain abundant in the bay and its tributaries,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Fishing and Boating Services<\/a>\u00a0Director David Blazer said.<\/p>\n<p>Licensed anglers are permitted to catch two striped bass between 20-28 inches per day, or one fish between 20-28 inches and one fish larger than\u00a028 inches. Current regulations are available\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/fishing\/striped-bass-4\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Anglers are also asked to assist <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/striped-bass\/studies.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">efforts to maintain and monitor Maryland\u2019s striped bass population<\/a>. Anyone who catches\u00a0a tagged fish should follow the instructions on the printed tag or call 800-688-3467.
