{"id":15117,"date":"2017-05-19T11:18:53","date_gmt":"2017-05-19T15:18:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=15117"},"modified":"2017-05-22T12:08:26","modified_gmt":"2017-05-22T16:08:26","slug":"new-playground-opens-in-patapsco-valley-state-park","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/05\/19\/new-playground-opens-in-patapsco-valley-state-park\/","title":{"rendered":"New Playground Opens in Patapsco Valley State Park"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Environmentally-Friendly Play Space Accessible to All<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4186\/34737040875_ec12a3e116_n.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/5\/4186\/34737040875_ec12a3e116_n.jpg\" width=\"351\" height=\"263\" \/><\/a>One of Maryland&#8217;s oldest state parks is set to unveil a brand-new amenity, a completely reconstructed playground with up-to-date features.<\/p>\n<p>The new <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/central\/patapscohollofield.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Hollofield<\/a> Play Space at <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/central\/patapsco.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Patapsco Valley State Park<\/a> will contain nature-based elements, such as simulated hollow logs, tree stumps, rocks and toadstools. <!--more-->The environmentally-friendly play area, constructed from recycled materials, is low-maintenance, permeable\u00a0and sustainable.<\/p>\n<p>More than just a traditional\u00a0playground, the Americans with Disabilities Act-compliant play space is accessible by design. It provides children of wide-ranging abilities an opportunity to explore, play and reflect in a natural setting.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Accessibility in our state parks is a high priority for us,&#8221; <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/publiclands\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maryland Park Service <\/a>Superintendent Nita Settina said. &#8220;We want our guests to enjoy as many of our amenities as possible, and this new playground is an excellent example.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Located in the center of the park, visitors can enjoy scenic views of the Patapsco River Valley that remain largely the same as they have been since 1907, when the park was created.<\/p>\n<p>The new play space is a collaboration between the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Publiclands\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Maryland Park Service\u00a0<\/a>and Friends of Patapsco Valley State Park, together with a number of community partners and charitable organizations.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Environmentally-Friendly Play Space Accessible to All One of Maryland&#8217;s oldest state parks is set to unveil a brand-new amenity, a completely reconstructed playground with up-to-date features.
