{"id":14879,"date":"2017-05-01T07:00:18","date_gmt":"2017-05-01T11:00:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=14879"},"modified":"2017-05-01T13:43:58","modified_gmt":"2017-05-01T17:43:58","slug":"funds-available-to-preserve-and-revitalize-working-waterfront","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/05\/01\/funds-available-to-preserve-and-revitalize-working-waterfront\/","title":{"rendered":"Funds Available to Preserve and Revitalize Working Waterfronts"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Coastal Communities Can Apply for Grants by June 30<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/4\/3823\/10294290406_c10b270f21.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"267\" \/>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0is now seeking proposals from local governments looking to invigorate their coastal communities and waterfront economies.<\/p>\n<p>Municipalities and counties in the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/md-coastal-zone.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">coastal zone<\/a> are eligible to apply for one-year grants of up to $60,000 through the department\u2019s\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/workingwaterfronts.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Working Waterfronts Program<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe prosperity of marine-dependent businesses and industries is vital to maintaining our state\u2019s rich maritime culture, economy and identity,\u201d Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton said. \u201cWith these grants, we can provide the necessary assistance and expertise for our coastal communities to protect these defining characteristics.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0program provides financial and technical support to preserve and protect existing and historic waterfront communities throughout Maryland. Ideal proposals will target waterfront planning, maritime zoning, and new programs supporting maritime industries and employment.<\/p>\n<p>Last year, grants were awarded to the municipalities of Annapolis, Cambridge, Oxford, Rock Hall, and St. Michaels, as well as\u00a0Talbot County.<\/p>\n<p>Interested applicants should submit proposals\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/ccs\/Pages\/funding.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">here<\/a>. Total requests may not exceed $60,000; matching funds are not required.
