{"id":14087,"date":"2017-04-18T10:41:19","date_gmt":"2017-04-18T14:41:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=14087"},"modified":"2017-04-19T16:48:07","modified_gmt":"2017-04-19T20:48:07","slug":"maryland-selects-migratory-game-bird-seasons","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/04\/18\/maryland-selects-migratory-game-bird-seasons\/","title":{"rendered":"Maryland Selects Migratory Game Bird Seasons"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Public Input Submitted for Final Approval<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/9\/8030\/8074421548_fee967ed65.jpg\" width=\"350\" height=\"226\" \/>After receiving and reviewing public input, the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0has selected the 2017-2018 migratory game bird hunting seasons.<\/p>\n<p>As the last step in the process, these recommendations are now pending final approval from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe department conducted an extensive public outreach effort, and consulted closely with members of the Wildlife Advisory Commission and Migratory Game Bird Advisory Committee,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Wildlife\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Wildlife and Heritage Service<\/a>\u00a0Director Paul Peditto said. \u201dWe are confident the selected migratory game bird seasons offer a management approach that balances the input of our citizens and the sustainability of this valuable resource.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Highlights of the department\u2019s recommendations include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Youth waterfowl hunting days Nov. 4, 2017, and Feb. 10, 2018;<\/li>\n<li>Regular duck hunting season segments from Oct. 14-21, Nov. 11-24 and Dec. 12 &#8211; Jan. 27, 2018, with a daily bag limit of six ducks, including two canvasbacks;<\/li>\n<li>The black duck daily bag has increased to two per day the season;<\/li>\n<li>Migratory Atlantic Population Canada goose hunting segments from Nov. 18-24 and from Dec. 15 &#8211; Feb. 3, 2018, with a daily bag limit of two geese;<\/li>\n<li>Mourning dove season segments from Sept. 1 &#8211; Oct. 14; Oct. 26 &#8211; Nov. 18; and Dec. 16 -Jan. 6, 2018.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The complete list of recommended migratory game bird seasons can be found <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Documents\/2017-2018_MigBirdSeasons.pdf\">here<\/a> and, once finalized, will appear <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Wildlife\/Pages\/hunt_trap\/home.aspx\">online<\/a> and in our guide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Public Input Submitted for Final Approval After receiving and reviewing public input, the\u00a0Maryland Department of Natural Resources\u00a0has selected the 2017-2018 migratory game bird hunting seasons.
