{"id":13643,"date":"2017-04-07T17:57:46","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T21:57:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=13643"},"modified":"2017-04-14T13:50:24","modified_gmt":"2017-04-14T17:50:24","slug":"fifth-graders-from-around-the-state-win-prizes-for-maryland-arbor-day-posters","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/04\/07\/fifth-graders-from-around-the-state-win-prizes-for-maryland-arbor-day-posters\/","title":{"rendered":"Fifth-Graders Win Prizes for Maryland Arbor Day Posters"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Clara Pham from St. Mary&#8217;s County Recognized; Winners&#8217; Schools Receive Tree Plantings<\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/3\/2839\/33860890465_420ccc77c1.jpg\" width=\"356\" height=\"270\" \/>Fifth-grade students from around the state have snared spring tree plantings for their schools, thanks to their award-winning Arbor Day posters submitted to the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Forest Service<\/a> accepted hundreds of entries for their <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/forests\/Documents\/ArborDayPosterContest.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2017 Arbor Day Poster Contest<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Fifth-graders created posters using varied artistic techniques, including crayons, paint, colored pencils and markers, all illustrating this year&#8217;s theme, &#8220;Trees are Terrific and Energy Wise!&#8221; Their original artwork featured trees from a wide range of species and colors set in a variety of different climates, weather patterns, locations and surroundings.<\/p>\n<hr \/>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/04\/1st-Place_Statewide_2017.png\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-13672 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/04\/1st-Place_Statewide_2017-300x226.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"226\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/04\/1st-Place_Statewide_2017-300x226.png 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/04\/1st-Place_Statewide_2017.png 500w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a>The first-place statewide winner is Clara Pham from St. Mary&#8217;s County.
