{"id":13638,"date":"2017-04-07T17:21:29","date_gmt":"2017-04-07T21:21:29","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=13638"},"modified":"2017-04-14T14:45:23","modified_gmt":"2017-04-14T18:45:23","slug":"statewide-spring-turkey-hunting-takes-off-april-18","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/04\/07\/statewide-spring-turkey-hunting-takes-off-april-18\/","title":{"rendered":"Statewide Spring Turkey Hunting Takes Off April 18"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Youths Offered Preseason Hunting Weekend<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/c1.staticflickr.com\/1\/496\/19125794813_bbf6b824fb.jpg\" width=\"352\" height=\"234\" \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0invites young hunters to kick off the spring turkey season with a statewide\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/huntersguide\/Pages\/JrHunters.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Junior Turkey Hunt Day<\/a>\u00a0April 15.<\/p>\n<p>The regular spring turkey season for all hunters will run from April 18 through May 23 statewide.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWild turkeys are generally abundant throughout most of Maryland so we predict another enjoyable turkey hunting season,\u201d <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Wildlife\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Wildlife and Heritage Service<\/a>\u00a0Director Paul Peditto said. \u201cThe spring turkey season is an excellent opportunity to introduce youth or other beginners to the sport. Hunting pressure is lower and gobbling activity is higher at this time of year.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Junior Turkey Hunt Days\u00a0allow licensed youths age 16 and under to hunt wild turkeys, when accompanied by an unarmed adult (21 and older), who holds a valid Maryland hunting license. Adults may not possess a bow, crossbow, air gun or firearm while accompanying a youth.<\/p>\n<p>The daily bag limit for the spring season is one bearded turkey with a season bag limit of two bearded turkeys.
