{"id":12974,"date":"2017-01-31T17:22:34","date_gmt":"2017-01-31T22:22:34","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=12974"},"modified":"2017-04-14T16:44:32","modified_gmt":"2017-04-14T20:44:32","slug":"youth-waterfowl-hunting-day-set-for-february-11","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/01\/31\/youth-waterfowl-hunting-day-set-for-february-11\/","title":{"rendered":"Youth Waterfowl Hunting Day Set for February 11"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Anyone up to 16 Years Old Can Participate<br \/>\n<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/8498628584_b8941357e6_o.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-12983 alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/8498628584_b8941357e6_o-300x199.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"351\" height=\"233\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/8498628584_b8941357e6_o-300x199.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/8498628584_b8941357e6_o-768x511.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/8498628584_b8941357e6_o-1024x681.jpg 1024w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 351px) 100vw, 351px\" \/><\/a>Young Marylanders can hone their hunting skills with the help of an experienced adult Feb. 11 during the second of two <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/huntersguide\/Pages\/JrHunters.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Youth Waterfowl Hunt Days<\/a> scheduled for the 2016-2017 hunting season.<\/p>\n<p>Anyone 16 years of age or younger can hunt ducks, geese, mergansers and coots on public and private land when accompanied by a qualified adult.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThis is a great opportunity to engage young people \u2013 Maryland\u2019s future hunters and trappers \u2013 in waterfowling,\u201d said <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/hunt_trap\/home.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Wildlife and Heritage Service<\/a> Director Paul Peditto. \u201cIt\u2019s also an opportunity to refresh the lessons learned in hunter safety and employ skills like placing decoys, calling birds and hunting with a retriever.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>All junior hunters and their adult mentors must carry valid\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_hunting_license.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland hunting licenses<\/a>. Youth hunters must purchase a Maryland Migratory Game Bird Stamp but do not need to purchase a federal duck stamp if under 16 years of age.<\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/migratory-game-bird-hunting\/\" target=\"_blank\">bag limits<\/a>\u00a0for Youth Waterfowl Hunt Days\u00a0are the same as the regular seasons except:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>One black duck may be taken;<\/li>\n<li>Two Canada geese may be taken when hunting within the Atlantic Population Canada Goose Hunting Zone; and<\/li>\n<li>Five Canada geese may be taken when hunting within the Atlantic Flyway Resident Population Canada Goose Hunting Zone.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Licenses, stamps and permits may be purchased online, by phone at 855-855-3906, at <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_centers.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">department service centers<\/a>\u00a0or at any one of more than 250\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/service_agents.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">agents<\/a>\u00a0statewide.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Anyone up to 16 Years Old Can Participate Young Marylanders can hone their hunting skills with the help of an experienced adult Feb. 11 during the second of two Youth Waterfowl Hunt Days scheduled for the 2016-2017 hunting season.
