{"id":12917,"date":"2017-01-30T08:36:12","date_gmt":"2017-01-30T13:36:12","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=12917"},"modified":"2017-04-14T13:56:36","modified_gmt":"2017-04-14T17:56:36","slug":"spring-trout-stocking-begins-in-maryland-lakes-and-streams","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2017\/01\/30\/spring-trout-stocking-begins-in-maryland-lakes-and-streams\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Trout Stocking Begins in Maryland Lakes and Streams"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Over 300,000 Fish Stocked Between January and June<\/em><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/27773605573_89d13d3f76_k.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/2\/2017\/01\/27773605573_89d13d3f76_k-1024x664.jpg\" width=\"300\" height=\"191\" \/><\/a>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Pages\/default.aspx\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>\u00a0has begun <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/Fisheries\/Pages\/trout\/stocking.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">stocking<\/a> about 338,000 brown, golden and rainbow trout throughout the state ahead of the 2017 fishing season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe trout stocking program raises several hundred thousand trout at our hatcheries, which are stocked for anglers of all ages and skill levels,\u201d said <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Fishing and Boating Services<\/a> Director David Blazer. \u201cOur team provides anglers with diverse trout fishing experiences, from the solitude of a mountain stream to an outing at your locally stocked pond with family and friends.\u201d<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Most trout are grown at the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/hatcheries\/index.aspx\">department\u2019s hatcheries<\/a>, the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/hatcheries\/powell.aspx\">Albert Powell Hatchery<\/a> in Washington County and the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/fisheries\/Pages\/hatcheries\/bear.aspx\">Bear Creek Hatcher<\/a>y in Garrett County. Additionally, the department partnered with the private Mettiki Hatchery to rear trout for Garrett County. The department also provides weekly updates at 800-688-3467.
