Millard Tawes, to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/accessdnr\/sets\/72157640505380355\" target=\"_blank\">break ice on the water <\/a>route to Smith Island, opening the vital link between the island and nearby Crisfield Harbor.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: left\">Smith Island residents are dependent on a small fleet of boats for necessary supplies and transportation.
