Property owner Kevin Barr donated the tract to the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/met\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Environmental Trust<\/a> to safeguard its scenic open space and wetlands.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are grateful for Mr. Barr\u2019s efforts to protect the habitat and help keep this farmland a productive part of the local economy,\u201d said Maryland Environmental Trust Director Bill Leahy.<\/p>\n<p>The newly-preserved Somerset County property is adjacent to other protected lands, and provides sweeping views of farmland and wetlands along\u00a0the Manokin River.<\/p>\n<p>The parcel has great historical significance on the Lower Eastern Shore.
