The Anne Arundel County business located on the Severn River earned the recognition after adopting practices from the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dnr.state.md.us\/boating\/cleanmarina\/cmprogram.asp#guidebook\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Clean Marina Guidebook<\/a>, meeting all department and environmental requirements, and passing a site inspection.<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur marina manager, Ginny, wanted us to go for this award and certification,\u201d said Smith\u2019s Marina Owner Rick Smith. \u201cAnd, once we got into it, I realized it was going to give us a fresh perspective on the business and things that we could do to improve the health of the Chesapeake Bay and our waterways.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>The <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/maps\/place\/529+Ridgley+Rd,+Crownsville,+MD+21032\/@39.042707,-76.575744,5367m\/data=!3m1!1e3!4m5!3m4!1s0x89b7fa747b133889:0x8101b19f2fccdf21!8m2!3d39.042654!4d-76.575286?ll=39.042707,-76.575744&amp;z=14&amp;t=h&amp;hl=en&amp;gl=US&amp;mapclient=embed&amp;q=529+Ridgley+Rd+Crownsville,+MD+21032\" target=\"_blank\">family-owned marina<\/a>, established in\u00a01936, has a working boatyard, a new office building with a ship\u2019s store, modern bathrooms and a fuel dock with both gas and diesel.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Smith\u2019s Marina represents a long maritime heritage in the Annapolis area,\u201d said Maryland Clean Mariana Program Manager\u00a0Donna Morrow. \u201cTo know that we can work together with family-owned, small-business owners to introduce them to ways to prevent and reduce pollution is immensely rewarding.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>There are now over 150 certified clean marinas in Maryland that have voluntarily adopted recommendations and undergone a site inspection. The department reinspects certified facilities every three years to ensure compliance.
