Anderson<\/a> as assistant secretary for aquatic resources. In this capacity, Anderson will oversee the units responsible for boating, fishing and water quality monitoring as well as the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/pprp\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\">Power Plant Research Program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>\u201cBill brings more than 30 years of innovative business and government experience to the department,\u201d said Natural Resources Secretary Mark Belton. \u201cHis past management of complex corporate structures and his expertise managing diverse organizations and stakeholders will be a great fit to lead aquatic resources. I\u2019m thrilled to have him join our leadership team.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Anderson served as assistant secretary of the U.S. Air Force from 2005 to 2008, where he directed energy strategy, environmental sustainability, safety and occupational health policy among other initiatives. He was decorated for exceptional civilian service and received the 2007 Presidential Award for Leadership in Federal Energy Management.<\/p>\n<p>His career also includes 15 years with General Electric Co., where he managed environmental, real estate and occupational health services and safety for 400 facilities worldwide. He is highly regarded as an expert in energy sustainability and military logistical matters, working as a consultant, lecturer and frequent guest speaker on those subjects.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI&#8217;m honored to join the team at the Department of Natural Resources, working to assure the health and sustainability of Maryland&#8217;s waterways, aquatic habitats and maritime heritage,&#8221; said Anderson.<\/p>\n<p>Anderson is a graduate of Washington College in Chestertown and received a Juris Doctor degree from the Syracuse University College of Law. A rower in college, he coached intercollegiate rowing at Syracuse and the University of Miami. He is an avid cyclist.
