Adult Mentors Pass on Hunting Safety and Ethics<\/em><\/p>\n

\"\"The Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> encourages experienced hunters to introduce youth to the time-honored sporting tradition this month during two Junior Deer Hunt Days<\/a>.<\/p>\n

The days will be held Nov. 12 on public and private land in all counties, and Nov. 13 on private land in Anne Arundel, Calvert, Caroline, Carroll, Cecil, Charles, Dorchester, Frederick, Harford, Kent, Montgomery, Queen Anne\u2019s, St. Mary\u2019s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester counties.<\/p>\n

In Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties, the hunt is open Nov. 13 on private and designated public lands<\/a>.<\/p>\n

\u201cThese days are dedicated to fostering young people in the teachings and traditions of hunting, and promoting an appreciation of our natural environment and resources,\u201d Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto said. \u201cThey provide an opportunity for experienced hunters to pass on the knowledge, skills and traits required for effective, enjoyable and safe hunting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Hunters 16 years of age or younger who possess a valid license may use firearms to hunt white-tailed and sika deer on these days when accompanied by an adult at least 21 years old who holds a valid hunting license. Adults may not possess a hunting device while accompanying a junior hunter but may participate in other open seasons if they are not acting as a\u00a0mentor.<\/p>\n
