{"id":11866,"date":"2016-10-27T08:00:19","date_gmt":"2016-10-27T12:00:19","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/?p=11866"},"modified":"2017-04-14T15:09:44","modified_gmt":"2017-04-14T19:09:44","slug":"fall-turkey-season-opens-in-western-maryland-2","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2016\/10\/27\/fall-turkey-season-opens-in-western-maryland-2\/","title":{"rendered":"Fall Turkey Season Opens in Western Maryland"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><em>Hunting Limited to Allegany, Garrett and Washington Counties<\/em><\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright \" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/2\/1525\/24835725955_4496a9b6a4_b_d.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"350\" height=\"163\" \/>The <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\" target=\"_blank\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> announced today that the <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Pages\/hunt_trap\/WildTurkeyHunting.aspx\" target=\"_blank\"><u>Fall<\/u> Turkey Hunting Season<\/a>\u00a0will open Oct. 29 and continue through Nov. 5 in Allegany, Garrett and Washington counties with a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/turkey-hunting\/\" target=\"_blank\">bag limit<\/a>\u00a0of one turkey per hunter.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Documents\/wt_observe_survey.pdf\" target=\"_blank\">2016 Wild Turkey Observation Survey Summary<\/a>\u00a0shows reproduction was below average in western Maryland, which may make hunting slightly more challenging this fall.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cAcorn production was high in Garrett County but below average in Allegany and Washington,\u201d said Wildlife and Heritage Service Director Paul Peditto. \u201cTurkeys tend to frequent fields more often and are more visible when acorns are scarce.
