Permits will be issued through a lottery drawing, with assignments based upon a hunter&#8217;s stated preference for each area and\/or date. <a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/wildlife\/Documents\/2016_ImpoundmentPermitApplication.pdf\">Applications<\/a> are due prior to Sept. 12.\u00a0<!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Waterfowl hunting within the areas is by permit only on the opening days of each of the three separate splits of duck season. After which, hunting is restricted to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.eregulations.com\/maryland\/hunting\/\">certain days and\/or holidays<\/a> through the remainder of each split season.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe impoundments at these areas are among the best known public areas for waterfowl hunting in the state,\u201d Game Bird Program Leader Bill Harvey said. \u201cRecent changes in water level management together with restrictions on boat motors have resulted in greatly improved waterfowl habitats at these locations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/2\/1686\/24398580385_8e06eb0555_m.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft\" src=\"https:\/\/c2.staticflickr.com\/2\/1686\/24398580385_8e06eb0555_m.jpg\" alt=\"Fairmount Wildlife Management Area\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/><\/a>All hunters are reminded that motorized boats, except those powered by electric motors, are prohibited at\u00a0the impoundments between Oct. 1, 2016 and March 31, 2017. The <a href=\"dnr.maryland.gov\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a> established this strategy two years ago to limit the impact on important habitat.<\/p>\n<p>The motorized boat regulations and schedule of open waterfowl hunting days apply only within the impoundment areas at both the Deal Island Wildlife Management Area and Fairmount Wildlife Management Areas.
