Outdated and inefficient building systems can result in high energy bills for residents. At the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, we\u2019re focused on helping families find and keep affordable housing.<\/p>\n<p>Recently <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=PtI-X3KEExo&amp;feature=youtu.be\">The Bradford<\/a> apartments located in Hagerstown, Maryland and built in 1974, received help from our <a href=\"http:\/\/dhcd.maryland.gov\/HousingDevelopment\/Pages\/EnergyEfficiencyWeatherization.aspx\">Multifamily Energy Efficiency Improvement and Housing Affordability (MEEHA) Program<\/a> which helps fund energy efficient measures. Nearly 200 previously energy-burdened families at The Bradford now benefit from reduced utility bills, helping to keep their homes affordable. The retrofit resulted in $56,000 in annual cost and environmental savings for the residents.<\/p>\n<p>Since 2009, the department\u2019s energy efficiency programs have saved Maryland customers more than $4 billion in energy costs. There are additional benefits:<\/p>\n<p>\u2022 Improves the lives of residents by reducing energy bills<br \/>\n\u2022 Provides capital to local contractors<br \/>\n\u2022 Reduces our state\u2019s overall energy usage<\/p>\n<p>Our Deputy Director of the Community Development Administration, John Maneval, is featured in this informational video.
