North East, MD<\/strong> – Community leaders and\u00a0residents celebrated the grand opening\u00a0of\u00a0Riverwoods at North East Apartments in Cecil County, capping the evening with a community barbecue. The 76-unit, garden-style community is\u00a0on Riverwoods Rd. next to Route 40 and nearby\u00a0North East Creek.<\/p>\n

Riverwoods at North East Apartments\u00a0serves a tremendous demand in Cecil County for affordable rental housing. DHCD helped fund the development through the agency’s Rental Housing Production Program and federal\u00a0Low Income Housing Tax Credits.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt took less than three months for all 76 units to fill up. This only shows that\u00a0affordable rental housing is needed more than ever,\u201d said Brein O\u2019Toole, deputy director of DHCD\u2019s multifamily unit. \u201cFunding this development emphasizes our commitment to the well-being of Maryland\u2019s hardworking citizens and to helping them find a balance between family life and work life.\u201d<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

DHCD\u00a0works to stimulate the production of affordable rental housing for working families by providing financing to cover construction, rehabilitation or acquisition costs.<\/p>\n

Riverwoods at North East offers 16 one-bedroom units, 40 two-bedroom units and 20 three-bedroom units. Each apartment is designed with Energy Star appliances, energy-efficient windows and lighting and water-conserving plumbing fixtures. The community center features a cyber caf\u00e9, fitness room, library and a lounge area for small group meetings or social gatherings.<\/p>\n

Residents can also enjoy easy walking distance access to public transportation, dining, shopping and entertainment along North East\u2019s Main Street<\/a>.<\/p>\n

Riverswoods at North East is developed by Enterprise Housing Corporation and Osprey Property Company, and managed by Habitat America.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt takes perseverance, dedication and commitment to create quality affordable housing,\u201d said Chickie Grayson, president and CEO of Enterprise Homes. \u201cFederal, state and local officials and the private sector all came together to provide great housing for the people of Cecil County.\u201d<\/p>\n

Additional funding for Riverwoods came from Capital One Bank, Wells Fargo Bank, AGM Financial Services, U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta, Enterprise Community Investment and the Town of North East.<\/p>\n
