BALTIMORE, Md. (July 28, 2026) – Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day today met with Baltimore City leaders to discuss economic development and homeless solutions, toured a shelter and celebrated $3 million in funding to support homeless services in the area.<\/p>\n

Tuesday\u2019s stop in Baltimore City was the fourth stop in the Department\u2019s Day Trips: Community Connections series, an evolution in its broader Day Trips initiative that started<\/a> in 2023. This new phase, which began this spring in Frederick County, focuses on engaging community and civic partners working on the ground level in housing, community revitalization, homeless solutions, business development, and more.<\/p>\n

\u201cA Baltimore that is economically strong, with thriving businesses and lovable and affordable neighborhoods makes for a stronger Maryland,\u201d said Secretary Day.<\/strong> \u201cAchieving these goals \u2013 while also creating solutions for people to exit homelessness \u2013 only happens when the state works together with the City of Baltimore and our community partners.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Baltimore City Day Trip started with the Mayor\u2019s Office of Homeless Services on a tour of Catholic Charities of Baltimore\u2019s Weinberg Housing and Resource Center. The center is a low-barrier emergency shelter that provides homeless services to adults with a focused goal of assisting residents in obtaining permanent housing.<\/p>\n

At the end of the tour, Secretary Day presented a ceremonial check that celebrated more than $3 million through the Department\u2019s Homeless Solutions Program to the Mayor\u2019s Office of Homeless Services. The money supports homeless services throughout Baltimore through organizations such as Catholic Charities of Baltimore.<\/p>\n

DHCD has consistently answered the call for Baltimore, and this ongoing partnership will save and transform the lives of those we serve.”<\/p>\n

After the tour, Secretary Day and Department staff held community roundtables at Our Daily Bread Employment Center with local government officials, non-profit leaders and community advocates. Key goals of these roundtable discussions were focused on:<\/p>\n
