{"id":13800,"date":"2026-06-15T10:22:36","date_gmt":"2026-06-15T14:22:36","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/?p=13800"},"modified":"2026-06-15T10:22:38","modified_gmt":"2026-06-15T14:22:38","slug":"state-of-maryland-announces-375000-for-community-development-projects-in-southern-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2026\/06\/15\/state-of-maryland-announces-375000-for-community-development-projects-in-southern-region\/","title":{"rendered":"State of Maryland Announces $375,000 for Community Development Projects in Southern Region"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><b>NEW CARROLLTON, MD<\/b> (June 15, 2026) \u2013 On June 1, the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development <a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2026\/06\/01\/state-of-maryland-announces-73-3-million-in-awards-for-statewide-community-revitalization-and-economic-development\/\">announced<\/a> that Southern Maryland counties have received a combined $375,000 through the state\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dhcd.maryland.gov\/Communities\/Pages\/StateRevitalizationPrograms\/default.aspx\">State Revitalization Programs<\/a> for projects and activities that promote community development and economic growth in Fiscal Year 2027.<\/p>\n<p>The state&#8217;s six State Revitalization Programs support revitalization and redevelopment projects and activities including: business expansion and retention; fa\u00e7ade and streetscape improvements; homeownership and home rehabilitation incentives; commercial improvement programs; community facilities; mixed-use development, and demolition activities.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cEach one of these projects advances community-driven priorities tied to revitalization goals, and helps make great places \u2013 places that strengthen economic competitiveness and that people want to call home,\u201d <b>said Jake Day, Secretary of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development<\/b>. \u201cThat investment delivers real returns: For every dollar invested through the Department\u2019s revitalization programs, there\u2019s approximately $17.90 in economic impact.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Projects in Charles and St. Mary\u2019s counties were selected through a competitively-scored, multi-agency review process used for the State Revitalization Programs. These projects are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Acquisition and consolidation of lots outside of NSF Indian Head for future development (Charles County);<\/li>\n<li>Continuation of minor improvements to properties within the downtown business district of Leonardtown (St. Mary\u2019s County).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>The Fiscal Year 2027 State Revitalization Program awards include 247 projects, awarded a total $77.3 million. Projects in 21 of Maryland\u2019s jurisdictions received awards through one or more of the programs.
