The program will provide essential health and safety repairs for low-income residents across eight underserved counties in Maryland.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;Safe homes are the foundation of healthy communities,&#8221; <\/span><b>said Secretary Jake Day. <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">&#8220;By helping homeowners address urgent repairs, we\u2019re making sure Maryland families can stay safe, healthy and secure in the places they call home.&#8221;<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Healthy Homes Production Grant Program is designed to create safer, healthier living environments by addressing critical housing hazards that disproportionately affect vulnerable families, seniors, and children. With a maximum of $18,000 per single-family home available for repairs, the $2 million federal investment will allow the program to serve more than 100 low-income households Allegany, Calvert, Charles, Garrett, Montgomery, Prince George\u2019s, St. Mary\u2019s, and Washington Counties.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Healthy Homes Production Grant Program will be managed by the Department\u2019s Whole Home Energy and Repairs team, which works to expand access to quality housing through programs to meet unique housing needs. The program protects stability and dignity by helping homeowners address urgent health and safety issues before they become crises using the eight healthy home principles:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep it Dry: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Addressing mold, roof leaks, plumbing issues, and foundation water problems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep it Clean:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Removing excessive waste and debris.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep it Safe: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Mitigating fire and injury hazards such as gas leaks, carbon monoxide issues, electrical problems, structural damage, and installing accessibility aids like ramps and railings.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep it Well-Ventilated:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Installing and upgrading ventilation to improve air quality.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep it Pest-Free:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Providing pest treatments for rats, roaches, and mice.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep it Contaminant-Free:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Remediating lead, asbestos, and radon, and repairing water\/well and septic\/sewer systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep it Maintained: <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Repairing existing mechanical, electrical, and structural systems.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><b>Keep it Thermally Controlled:<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> Repairing or replacing windows and doors for health, safety, water intrusion, and security. Integration with energy programs to access insulation and other thermal improvements.<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The program is targeted at households whose income is at or below 80% of the Area Median Income (AMI).
