The program supports homeowners with critical repairs in primary residences that could lead to displacement if not addressed<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

NEW CARROLLTON, MD <\/b>(January 22, 2026) \u2013 Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day today announced that applications are open for a limited time for the Homeowner Assistance Fund (HAF) WholeHome Critical Home Repairs grant program. The program, administered by the Department\u2019s Community Development Administration, will provide over $3.5 million in grants to homeowners to address critical health and safety issues in their homes that could result in displacement.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cFor too many Marylanders, a leaking roof, a broken furnace, or unsafe electrical wiring can be the difference between staying in their home and being forced out,\u201d <\/span>said Secretary Day.<\/b> \u201cThe HAF WholeHome Critical Home Repairs Grant Program is about protecting stability and dignity by helping homeowners address urgent health and safety issues before they become crises. By investing in these critical repairs, we\u2019re helping Maryland families remain safely housed in the communities they call home.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

The grant program will provide eligible homeowners with grants of up to $10,000 for critical home repairs such as roof repair or replacement, repair of non-functioning heating or cooling systems, electrical or plumbing repairs, or mold or mildew remediation. To be eligible for funding, applicants must be a Maryland homeowner whose income is at or below 150% of county area median income. Full eligibility criteria and application requirements are available on <\/span>the Department\u2019s website<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

Applications will be processed on a first-come, first-served basis. Applications open today, January 22, 2026, and will close when funds have been exhausted.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Department of Housing and Community Development\u2019s Division of Development Finance, also known as the Community Development Administration, manages the Department\u2019s homeowner assistance programs that support the rehabilitation of single family housing to improve basic livability, health and safety and energy efficiency, including lead paint reduction, weatherization assistance and financing for persons with special needs.<\/span><\/p>\n
