{"id":13256,"date":"2025-12-17T13:34:04","date_gmt":"2025-12-17T18:34:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/?p=13256"},"modified":"2025-12-17T13:34:05","modified_gmt":"2025-12-17T18:34:05","slug":"state-of-maryland-announces-26-7-million-in-awards-to-community-development-projects-in-central-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2025\/12\/17\/state-of-maryland-announces-26-7-million-in-awards-to-community-development-projects-in-central-region\/","title":{"rendered":"State of Maryland Announces $26.7 Million in Awards to Community Development Projects in Central Region"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><b>NEW CARROLLTON, MD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (December 17, 2025) \u2013 The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development today announced that jurisdictions in Central Maryland have received a combined $26.7 million through the state\u2019s State Revitalization Programs for 111 projects and activities that promote community development and economic growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p>\u201cIn order to build a Maryland that is more resilient, more affordable, and more competitive, we have to start at the local level,\u201d<strong>\u00a0said Gov. Moore.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cAcross Maryland, these investments will fuel local visions, strengthen small businesses, expand housing options, and lay the groundwork for long-term prosperity. This is how we grow an economy that lifts everyone, and this is how we win the decade.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The state&#8217;s six State Revitalization Programs support revitalization and redevelopment projects and activities including: business expansion and retention; fa\u00e7ade and streetscape improvements; homeownership and home rehabilitation incentives; commercial improvement programs; community facilities; mixed-use development, and demolition activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Projects in Anne Arundel, Baltimore, Carroll, Harford and Howard counties and Baltimore City were awarded. Some of these projects include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Building a Workforce Development Makerspace that will transform the historic 14-acre Pikesville Armory (Baltimore City);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Providing matching grants for Arundel Community Reinvestment Loan Program recipients in the Sustainable Communities of Glen Burnie, Odenton, and Brooklyn Park (Anne Arundel County);\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Acquisition and renovation of a vacant former restaurant that will be converted into a shared commercial kitchen to support food entrepreneurs, create jobs, and revitalize the commercial corridor in Essex (Baltimore County);\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Continued restoration of the historic 227 year-old Dielman Inn and creation of a design and engineering plan to proceed with fortifying the structure (Carroll County);\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Revitalization of the Edgewater Village area with a security system, an employment resource center and new retail tenants in Edgewood (Harford County);\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Renovating and activating two vacant historic buildings that were modified due to ongoing flood mitigation efforts in Ellicott City (Howard County).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWhen we invest in the character, vitality, and potential of our communities, we unlock new opportunities for the people who live and work there. We\u2019re proud to stand with our partners across the state as we build great places in partnership.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Fiscal Year 2026 State Revitalization Program awards include 226 projects, awarded a total $69.5 million. Projects in 23 of Maryland\u2019s jurisdictions received awards through one or more of the programs.
