Office of Statewide Broadband marks 99.5% of Marylanders connected or awarded for high-speed internet; Five counties now fully funded for broadband infrastructure<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n

NEW CARROLLTON, MD (November 20, 2025) <\/b>\u2014 Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day today announced significant progress toward the Moore-Miller Administration\u2019s commitment to connect every Marylander to affordable, reliable high-speed internet. Broadband infrastructure has now been fully funded in five Maryland counties \u2013 Cecil, Talbot, Dorchester, Somerset and Worcester \u2013 marking a major milestone in the state\u2019s effort to close the digital divide. To date, 99.5% of Maryland is connected to or has been awarded funding for high-speed, reliable internet.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cAccess to high-speed internet is access to opportunity,\u201d <\/span>said Secretary Day.<\/b> \u201cFrom education and healthcare to business and workforce development, broadband is the modern foundation of a thriving community. The Moore-Miller Administration made a promise to leave no one behind, and today\u2019s announcement is proof that we\u2019re delivering.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

Across the five counties that have received full levels of funding, 16,208 households and 42,465 Marylanders have been and will be connected to high-speed internet, made possible by a total of $77,054,881 in infrastructure investment through the Department\u2019s Office of Statewide Broadband. The Difficult to Serve Properties program, which utilized American Rescue Plan Act – Capital Projects Fund funding, brought the five counties to 100% connected or awarded locations.<\/span><\/p>\n

The Office of Statewide Broadband leads Maryland\u2019s efforts to ensure every household and business has access to affordable, reliable high-speed internet. Under Governor Wes Moore and Lt. Governor Aruna Miller\u2019s leadership, the Office of Statewide Broadband has made historic investments in broadband expansion, supporting local Internet Service Providers, partnering with counties and municipalities, and prioritizing Maryland\u2019s underserved and unserved communities through specialized <\/span>grant programs<\/span><\/a>.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Since the Governor\u2019s inauguration, the Office of Statewide Broadband has connected more than 43,000 households, bringing reliable internet access to an estimated more than 110,000 Marylanders. Since 2023, the office has invested $145.8 million in infrastructure grants and $35.8 million in digital equity grants.<\/span><\/p>\n
