{"id":12262,"date":"2024-09-25T10:30:00","date_gmt":"2024-09-25T14:30:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/?p=12262"},"modified":"2024-09-25T10:17:13","modified_gmt":"2024-09-25T14:17:13","slug":"new-multi-family-housing-and-vibrant-main-streets-highlighted-in-dhcd-day-trip-to-montgomery-county","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2024\/09\/25\/new-multi-family-housing-and-vibrant-main-streets-highlighted-in-dhcd-day-trip-to-montgomery-county\/","title":{"rendered":"New Multi-Family Housing and Vibrant Main Streets Highlighted in DHCD Day Trip to Montgomery County"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><i>Silver Spring, Rockville, Takoma Park, Gaithersburg, Bethesda, and Long Branch on display during two-day tour<\/i><\/p>\n<p>ROCKVILLE, Md. &#8211; Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day made several visits in Montgomery County this week during the latest stop in DHCD\u2019s Day Trip tour across the state.<\/p>\n<p>Secretary Day, along with DHCD senior staff, spent Monday and Tuesday visiting Rockville, Bethesda, Silver Spring, Gaithersburg and Takoma Park, allowing the department to hear directly from community leaders and see the progress of projects DHCD has invested in over the years. It was the 15th stop in<a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/category\/day-trip\/\"> DHCD\u2019s Day Trip series<\/a>, which started in Frederick County in September 2023.<\/p>\n<p>In a span from Fiscal Year 2020-24, DHCD invested more than $776.4 million to provide affordable housing, revitalize neighborhoods and community businesses, improve internet services and support homeless services in Montgomery County.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2024\/09\/Screenshot-2024-09-25-101547.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone wp-image-12263 size-large\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2024\/09\/Screenshot-2024-09-25-101547-1024x697.jpg\" alt=\"Montgomery County Electeds Selfie\" width=\"980\" height=\"667\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2024\/09\/Screenshot-2024-09-25-101547-1024x697.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2024\/09\/Screenshot-2024-09-25-101547-300x204.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2024\/09\/Screenshot-2024-09-25-101547-768x523.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/16\/2024\/09\/Screenshot-2024-09-25-101547.jpg 1102w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 980px) 100vw, 980px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development has enjoyed a long and successful partnership with Montgomery County to provide affordable housing and create lovable and vibrant cities,\u201d said <b>Secretary Jake Day. <\/b>\u201cMeeting with county and municipal officials and hearing their priorities first-hand this week strengthens these important partnerships and will ensure Montgomery County continues to be successful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I appreciate Secretary Day taking the time to tour Montgomery County and get a first-hand look at the projects we\u2019re working on to increase the supply of housing, especially affordable housing, and to support communities,\u201d said<b> Montgomery County Executive Marc Elrich.<\/b> \u201cWe\u2019ve been able to use County and State funding to build quality affordable housing, but the real challenge is preserving affordable units across the County, especially for working families, seniors, and young people. Tours like this help the Moore-Miller administration see what\u2019s happening on the ground so we can build solutions that truly meet the needs of our residents.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are honored that Maryland Secretary of Housing and Community Development Jake Day joined us to see firsthand some of the successful affordable housing and mixed-use communities we have here in Montgomery County.
