ANNAPOLIS, MD\u00a0<\/strong>\u2014 Governor Wes Moore today announced the appointment of Michael Pokorny as chief executive officer of the\u00a0Maryland Community Investment Corporation<\/a>. Appointed by the corporation\u2019s board of directors, Pokorny and the board will manage the corporation and its strategic direction.<\/p>\n

\u201cEstablishing the Maryland Community Investment Corporation is an important part of our housing initiatives and a critical step in making Maryland more affordable,\u201d\u00a0said Gov. Moore.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cThe selection of Michael Pokorny as chief executive officer will help ensure that Maryland\u2019s underserved communities have the proper resources to grow now and in the future.\u201d<\/p>\n

Established under\u00a0House Bill 599<\/a>, proposed and\u00a0signed into law by Governor Wes Moore<\/a>, the Maryland Community Investment Corporation represents Maryland’s first state-sponsored\u00a0Community Development Entity<\/a>. As a quasi-governmental entity, the corporation is dedicated to building long-term financial capacity and sustained investment in low-income communities across Maryland through\u00a0New Markets Tax Credits<\/a>.\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u201cMichael brings important ideas and a diverse set of experiences to his new role as CEO of the Maryland Community Investment Corporation,\u201d\u00a0said Comptroller and Maryland Community Investment Corporation Board Chair Brooke E. Lierman.<\/strong>\u00a0\u201cI am optimistic he will be the champion we need to successfully launch this entity, work closely with our board of directors and community partners, and ensure that Maryland is able to compete and win additional tax credit funding for investment in our historically marginalized communities.\u201d<\/p>\n

Prior to his new appointment, Pokorny worked as an affordable housing and community development professional, serving as senior underwriter and market leader for Reinvestment Fund. His experience with tax credits, public finance, subsidy programs, grants and the demands of market-driven debt solutions have enabled him to lead teams across a broad range of solutions.<\/p>\n

In his new role, Pokorny will oversee day-to-day operations for the Maryland Community Investment Corporation, keep the board informed of key decision points and developments, and implement Board decisions. As chief executive officer, Pokorny will also make key recommendations and decisions concerning the form and content of the New Market Tax Credit application, staffing, subcontractors, consultants, partnerships and the project pipeline.<\/p>\n
