Wednesday\u2019s visit to the county that calls itself \u201cMaryland\u2019s Coast\u201d is the 11th stop overall.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">From Fiscal Year 2020 through Fiscal Year 2024, DHCD has invested more than $42 million in Worcester County for affordable housing, broadband infrastructure, community and business revitalization as well as services for homelessness support.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/meips\/ADKq_NbqaoimSJGjTzjdXsxd1gc9paSGGQeASX0AJlFk0G4xEtDYDHY-OmEr1TOrO4bdRVtU3HrAqDtzlFgMG2XL9yyW0gPF8oHp_NeQVClm7JQCM4QYB-DAzrtR4deQMlh6K1mkXahos7Dqip8yBA4771Xha5fyFA-eBxLbg27akUfGA20KMcL8UyAI9M2SwtvzAkwCfj2CU51Mhk4dhGluIp9DQvoAQP23L-dXOg=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/fancy_images\/MDDHCD\/2024\/06\/9725407\/5537568\/20240626-worcester-co-day-trips-cypruss-brewery-gro_crop.jpg\" alt=\"Group Shot\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWe cannot learn the needs of our communities while sitting in our offices in Lanham &#8211; we must meet people where they are,\u201d said <\/span><b>Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cI\u2019ve seen great changes in Worcester County first hand over the years but I still learned so much from today\u2019s Day Trip. I\u2019m confident we can continue to work together with leaders from the county and the great cities and towns of Worcester County to ensure we leave no one behind.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cWorcester County is continually undertaking projects across a broad spectrum that together support vibrant and bustling communities, with thriving downtown commercial districts at the heart of our towns,\u201d said <\/span><b>Worcester County Commissioner President Chip Bertino<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. \u201cWe are grateful for ongoing opportunities to collaborate with Secretary Day along with other state and local partners to leverage vital grant funds to rehabilitate homes, expand and develop new parks and recreation spaces, and attract career and family-sustaining businesses.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Earlier in the week, Secretary Day and DHCD staff toured many past and proposed investments in support of revitalization efforts in Downtown Ocean City on Monday, June 24 during the Maryland Municipal League Conference.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/meips\/ADKq_NbDAR53SOmULzUXVhCF1d64Gd3v4csO6t7Nleqex02qRIp8dV-3EOb_bjkHFoUBVdsaRvcfVNK445m-eBT7woUpMjm8pkAGm9gkO2ZmsKWJLxqbe6NqYR02uirjEDL1OfnERcnRP6n0OCz8HVYeA13Hjm2-gEUK3wRnaQg5nbptv9vSq72RZGRD7rIdEVlsMBZJ_bUkWSEYAKlu8VCtQ65u_5zTWwJPUuonjw=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/fancy_images\/MDDHCD\/2024\/06\/9725409\/5537569\/20240626-worcester-co-day-trips-weston-moore-jake-d_crop.jpg\" alt=\"Day Trips\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Secretary Day and DHCD staff first traveled to Pocomoke City to tour its downtown area, visit with town officials and see recent redevelopment projects.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Later in the day, DHCD officials traveled to Snow Hill to visit two homes being rehabilitated with funds through the department\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dhcd.maryland.gov\/Residents\/Pages\/starp\/default.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Special Targeted Applicant Rehabilitation Program. <\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The STAR Program is used to preserve and improve single-family properties and designed to bring properties up to applicable building codes and standards or a minimum housing quality standard.\u200b\u200b<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The day concluded with a roundtable discussion at the Snow Hill Firehouse. The meeting gave officials from Worcester County, Snow Hill, Berlin, Pocomoke City and Ocean City the opportunity to share their needs and feedback to DHCD.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/ci3.googleusercontent.com\/meips\/ADKq_NZdvawALcTXArG0Idxj9uo-xKVxuYxB0ze0sU1TWPTqaV2rSn-kIhD_JrVTqu_cvZwWrhPzH3VN8PlpVzD4ZvsCnjgbunpfgaeHh4fQzrBBmJvBT1PsnFNnzO5LGBhna524VyOIwOz8Qrw07kHqwNpV9CfFK9pWF3Xb3XUx-6ttUx7yOMHLaWje_YfCKGHWSymajcrnnekYS0Y9chiZkxx2ilUgYZF3U2BSjw=s0-d-e1-ft#https:\/\/content.govdelivery.com\/attachments\/fancy_images\/MDDHCD\/2024\/06\/9725424\/5537570\/20240626-worcester-co-day-trips-cl-marshall-jake-da_crop.jpg\" alt=\"Jake Day and CL Marshall\" \/><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">During that meeting, Secretary Day presented the Town of Berlin with a ceremonial check for $3.8 million in bond financing from the department\u2019s <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dhcd.maryland.gov\/Communities\/Pages\/lgif\/default.aspx\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Local Government Infrastructure Finance Program<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. The full bond of $3.8 million includes a premium generated from the sale of the bonds.
