{"id":12030,"date":"2024-04-24T15:55:17","date_gmt":"2024-04-24T19:55:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/?p=12030"},"modified":"2024-04-24T15:55:20","modified_gmt":"2024-04-24T19:55:20","slug":"secretary-day-visits-several-dhcd-funded-dorchester-county-projects-in-latest-day-trip","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2024\/04\/24\/secretary-day-visits-several-dhcd-funded-dorchester-county-projects-in-latest-day-trip\/","title":{"rendered":"Secretary Day Visits Several DHCD-Funded Dorchester County Projects in Latest Day Trip"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>Housing and Community Revitalization sites in Cambridge, Hurlock highlighted<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>CAMBRIDGE, Md. &#8211; Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day visited several state-sponsored projects in Dorchester County on Wednesday as part of the agency\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/category\/day-trip\/\">Day Trips tour across Maryland.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The tour to the county \u201cWhere Water Moves Us\u201d allowed Secretary Day and other DHCD staff to connect with the area\u2019s public officials, business owners and residents and see projects DHCD has supported. And through our partnership with county and municipal officials, we can fulfill the Moore-Miller administration\u2019s pledge to make Dorchester County and Maryland safer, more affordable and more competitive.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Dorchester County was honored to host Secretary Day and his DHCD staff for a full day of discussion about the concerns and issues that face our County,\u201d said Dorchester County Council President George L. Pfeffer, Jr. \u201cThis day included a tour of projects that DHCD is working on and ended with an interactive discussion with stakeholders from around our County. HOW has been succeeded by DHCD\u2019s UPLIFT (Utilizing Progressive Lending Investments to Finance Transformation) program that addresses homes impacted by appraisal gaps by accelerating the pace of new construction and rehabilitation of quality affordable housing in strategically identified communities across Maryland.<\/p>\n<p>The group made a stop at the newly opened Pine Street Community Market, the first commercial business in that part of Cambridge in decades. The business benefited from DHCD\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/dhcd.maryland.gov\/Business\/Pages\/NBW.aspx\">Neighborhood BusinessWorks program,<\/a> which provides flexible financing to new or expanding small businesses and nonprofit organizations in<a href=\"https:\/\/dhcd.maryland.gov\/Communities\/Pages\/dn\/default.aspx\"> Sustainable Communities<\/a> and Priority Funding Areas throughout the state. DHCD supported the restoration through state revitalization funds.<\/p>\n<p>The tour ended in Hurlock with a community stakeholder discussion about ways the department can help Dorchester County with its key missions of creating more opportunities for affordable housing, neighborhood revitalization, infrastructure, business development and broadband connectivity.<\/p>\n<p>This was DHCD\u2019s ninth Day Trip across Maryland since the fall of 2023.
