{"id":11859,"date":"2023-12-13T13:57:25","date_gmt":"2023-12-13T18:57:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/?p=11859"},"modified":"2023-12-13T13:57:27","modified_gmt":"2023-12-13T18:57:27","slug":"state-revitalization-program-awards-to-bring-43-2-million-to-community-development-projects-in-baltimore-region","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2023\/12\/13\/state-revitalization-program-awards-to-bring-43-2-million-to-community-development-projects-in-baltimore-region\/","title":{"rendered":"State Revitalization Program Awards To Bring $43.2 Million to Community Development Projects in Baltimore Region"},"content":{"rendered":"\n\n\n<p><b>NEW CARROLLTON, MD (December 13, 2023) \u2013 <\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) has announced that counties in the Baltimore region have received a combined $43.2 million through the state\u2019s seven State Revitalization Programs for 137 projects and activities that promote community development and economic growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cTo win the decade, we must be intentional about building sustainable, vibrant communities that lift all Marylanders,\u201d <\/span><b>said Gov. Moore.<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> \u201cThese investments will support local and county leaders in their vital work to drive economic growth and create stronger pathways to prosperity in all parts of the state. Together, we will continue to revitalize our communities and reveal Maryland&#8217;s full potential.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The seven programs will support revitalization and redevelopment projects and activities including: business expansion and retention; fa\u00e7ade and streetscape improvements; homeownership and home rehabilitation incentives; commercial improvement programs; community facilities; mixed-use development, and demolition activities.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Projects in Harford, Carroll, Anne Arundel, Baltimore, and Howard counties and Baltimore City were awarded. To view the full list, click <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dhcd.maryland.gov\/Documents\/PressReleases\/SRP-Awards-2024-Baltimore.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Some of these projects include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Funding for Wisteria Village, a sustainable housing project to increase population density and demonstrate the feasibility of a modern \u201cstarter housing\u201d typology: tiny homes (Baltimore City);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Brooklyn Park Community Center, which will provide a central location for workforce development, training, social and mental health aid, computer lab, after-school programs and recreational activities for an underserved population (Anne Arundel County);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Create an ADA friendly public green space located adjacent to Sykesville\u2019s Main Street to be used to help strengthen downtown businesses and for an outdoor gathering space (Carroll County);<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">And a program to encourage revitalization along the North Laurel-Savage section of the Route 1 corridor and Historic Savage through matching grants that help owners and tenants of commercial properties renovate their facades and improve the appearance of the area (Howard County).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDHCD is proud to support our local partners in the Baltimore region in their efforts to build stronger communities, create loveable places, and invest in Maryland\u2019s future,\u201d said DHCD Secretary Jake Day. \u201cEach of these 137 projects plays a key role in our revitalization efforts and aligns with Moore-Miller Administration priorities.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Fiscal Year 2024 State Revitalization Program awards include 219 projects, awarded a total $63.7 million. Projects in 23 of Maryland\u2019s 24 jurisdictions received awards through one or more of the programs.
