Thursday\u2019s visit was the latest stop in DHCD\u2019s effort to connect with Maryland\u2019s communities<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n\n\n\n

TOWSON, MD (November 30, 2023)<\/strong> — Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day continued DHCD\u2019s statewide Day Trips tour today with a stop in Baltimore County.<\/span><\/p>\n

Thursday\u2019s stop was the latest in DHCD\u2019s planned visits to reach community leaders, business owners and residents to learn how the department can help improve housing opportunities and economic development in the area.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe best way for us to truly understand the needs of Marylanders is to go where they live and work to listen to the people who shape their community on a daily basis,\u201d said DHCD Secretary Jake Day.<\/strong> \u201cThis department has worked well with Baltimore County\u2019s leaders to support the County\u2019s visions in the past. I look forward to continuing that partnership, because Baltimore County\u2019s success is key to enabling Maryland to \u2018Win the Decade.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

DHCD has provided more than $73 million to Baltimore County in the last three fiscal years to create attainable housing, develop safe, lovable places and close the digital divide.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur administration remains focused on doing all we can to expand economic opportunity and make sure that every family can find a safe place to call home,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski.<\/strong> “We are thrilled to welcome Secretary Day to Baltimore County and look forward to sharing ideas and identifying opportunities for collaboration so we can continue to deliver the investments and initiatives that will make our neighborhoods stronger for years to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

Thursday\u2019s visit started at Roggenart Bistro & Caf\u00e9 in Towson and continued with stops at several places that will provide new housing in several parts of the county, including Ridgedale in Rosedale and Turner Station in Dundalk, as well as a visit to Downtown Dundalk, a designated Main Street Maryland community.<\/p>\n

The tour wrapped up at Towson University, where the Secretary and senior staff met with area stakeholders to talk about the challenges Baltimore County faces with homelessness, affordable housing and economic development.<\/p>\n
