The federal grant, administered by DHCD, will be used to support a local food pantry in the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/eastonmd.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Town of Easton<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Talbot County will use the funds to expand a food pantry in Easton operated by the local conference of the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/svdpeastonmd.org\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Society of St. Vincent de Paul<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">. An addition will be constructed on the existing facility, significantly expanding its capacity for food distribution and services for low- to moderate-income households.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Talbot County Council is very appreciative of the Community Development Block Grant funds received from Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development for the Society of St. Vincent de Paul,\u201d said Talbot County Council President Chuck Callahan. \u201cThese grant funds will allow the Society of St. Vincent de Paul to serve more members of our community in their time of need and have a significant impact in their quality of life.\u00a0 We are grateful to the State for the funds and particularly to the all-volunteer staff of the Society for the incredible work they do in our community.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">More than $5 million in <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/dhcd.maryland.gov\/Documents\/PressReleases\/SFY24-CDBG-Awards.pdf\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Fiscal Year 2024 Community Development Block Grants<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> was awarded to 13 projects in eight counties across Maryland, including improvements to infrastructure and community facilities, as well as programs serving homeless persons, persons with disabilities, and low- to moderate-income individuals.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cMaryland\u2019s local leaders have their finger on the pulse of their residents and communities, each with its unique needs,\u201d said Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day. \u201cWith the partnership of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, we\u2019re excited to be a part of helping this important project come to life for the residents of Talbot County.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The national Community Development Block Grant program was enacted into law by Congress as part of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. Since then, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program has supported community redevelopment, affordable housing, and the expansion of economic opportunities.
