{"id":10407,"date":"2021-10-01T10:40:14","date_gmt":"2021-10-01T14:40:14","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/?p=10407"},"modified":"2021-10-01T10:40:21","modified_gmt":"2021-10-01T14:40:21","slug":"applications-open-for-2022-keep-maryland-beautiful-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2021\/10\/01\/applications-open-for-2022-keep-maryland-beautiful-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Applications Open for 2022 Keep Maryland Beautiful Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h2 style=\"text-align: center\">Applications Open for 2022 Keep Maryland Beautiful Grants<\/h2>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><i>$320,000 Available for Community Beautification, Greening, and Environmental Initiatives<\/i><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Forever Maryland<\/a>, in partnership with the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/met\/Pages\/default.aspx\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Environmental Trust<\/a>, a unit of the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/dnr.maryland.gov\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources<\/a>, is now accepting applications for the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.org\/grants-page\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Keep Maryland Beautiful<\/a>\u00a0grants program.<\/p>\n<p>Four different grants are being offered to help volunteer and nonprofit groups, communities, and land trusts support environmental education projects, litter removal, citizen stewardship, and solve natural resource issues in urban and rural areas. The deadline to\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.submittable.com\/submit\/170228\/keep-maryland-beautiful-grant-application\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">apply<\/a>\u00a0for funding is Nov. 15, 2021. Awards will be announced in spring 2022.<br \/><span id=\"more-34580\"><\/span><\/p>\n<p>The Keep Maryland Beautiful grants will be offered in two categories:\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.org\/environmental-grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Environmental Education,\u00a0Community Initiatives, and Cleanups<\/a>\u00a0for community groups, local governments, and nonprofits; and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.org\/land-trust-grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Land Trust Capacity, Excellence, and Stewardship<\/a>\u00a0for local land trusts. Keep Maryland Beautiful grants are awarded annually to support the removal of thousands of pounds of litter and the revitalization of public lands and waterways in an effort to enhance and expand local capacity to conserve the state\u2019s resources.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe are pleased to work with our partners again to offer Keep Maryland Beautiful grants, supporting locally developed projects for cleaner communities, protected lands, and restored waterways,\u201d Maryland Department of Natural Resources Secretary Jeannie Haddaway-Riccio said. \u201cThese initiatives engage Maryland citizens in important ways that protect our natural resources, enhance our communities, and improve our quality of life.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Funding for the Keep Maryland Beautiful grants program is provided by the Maryland Department of Transportation, Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, Forever Maryland, and Maryland Environmental Trust.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThrough our Keep Maryland Beautiful partnership the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development will provide $250,000 to fund Clean Up and Green Up Maryland grants,\u201d said Secretary Kenneth C. Holt. \u201cThese grants will support organizations like neighborhood associations or other local stakeholders to beautify and improve their communities.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe Keep Maryland Beautiful program has been a valuable partner in MDOT\u2019s anti-litter initiatives,\u201d said Maryland Department of Transportation Secretary Greg Slater. \u201cVolunteer projects supported by these grants have removed tons of litter and debris from our roadways. Equally important, these projects plant seeds of knowledge and stewardship that could keep our roads \u2013 and our communities \u2013 clean and healthy for future generations.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cOur Keep Maryland Beautiful Grants Program is an opportunity for everyone to have a lasting impact on our local communities and environment.\u00a0 Many of the projects are in economically disadvantaged communities where environmental cleanup and education are needed most. After impressive results from previous grants, we are eagerly anticipating innovative ideas for new projects and honored to provide the support to bring the ideas to life,\u201d said Forever Maryland Chair, Nick Dilks.<\/p>\n<p>Grants and funding amount available are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.org\/land-trust-grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Aileen Hughes Grants<\/a>\u00a0of up to $5,000 are awarded to an individual representing a Maryland land trust for outstanding leadership, partnership, and innovation in a conservation project or organization development.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.org\/environmental-grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Citizen Stewardship Grants<\/a>\u00a0\u00a0of up to $5,000 is awarded to schools, nonprofits, and other community organizations whose missions are centered upon directly engaging community members (especially children and young adults) in environmental education and stewardship. These grants also support organizations that demonstrate active engagement as defenders of the environment by developing innovative solutions to local environmental problems.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.org\/environmental-grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Clean Up &amp; Green Up Maryland Grants<\/a>\u00a0of up to $5,000 are awarded to local governments, community groups, and nonprofit organizations to promote neighborhood beautification and cleanliness by increasing litter removal, greening activities, community education, and citizen stewardship.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/forevermaryland.org\/land-trust-grants\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Janice Hollman Grants<\/a>\u00a0of up to $10,000 are awarded to land trusts to increase capacity, support programming and innovation, and foster stronger, better-connected trusts that will protect all natural resources and enhance the lives of citizens and generations to come.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Fiscal Year\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dnr\/2021\/03\/19\/2021-keep-maryland-beautiful-grants-total-312500\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">2021 awards included\u00a0<\/a>91 grants totaling $312,500\u00a0for beautification projects, community cleanup activities, and environmental education programs in 19 counties and Baltimore City.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Applications Open for 2022 Keep Maryland Beautiful Grants $320,000 Available for Community Beautification, Greening, and Environmental Initiatives Forever Maryland, in partnership with the\u00a0Maryland Environmental Trust, a unit of the\u00a0Maryland Department of Natural Resources, is now accepting applications for the\u00a0Keep Maryland Beautiful\u00a0grants program.
