{"id":10272,"date":"2021-03-17T16:51:31","date_gmt":"2021-03-17T20:51:31","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/?p=10272"},"modified":"2021-03-17T16:54:35","modified_gmt":"2021-03-17T20:54:35","slug":"governor-hogan-submits-1-08-billion-supplemental-budget-focused-on-rental-assistance-higher-education-and-transportation","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2021\/03\/17\/governor-hogan-submits-1-08-billion-supplemental-budget-focused-on-rental-assistance-higher-education-and-transportation\/","title":{"rendered":"Governor Hogan Submits $1.08 Billion Supplemental Budget Focused on Rental Assistance, Higher Education, and Transportation"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<h1>Governor Hogan Submits $1.08 Billion Supplemental Budget Focused on Rental Assistance, Higher Education, and Transportation<\/h1>\n<p><em>More Than $250 Million for Rental Assistance, Including Eviction Prevention, Rent Relief, and Case Management<br \/><\/em><em>More Than $275 Million for Higher Education and Community Colleges<br \/><\/em><em>More Than $230 Million for Capital Transportation Projects<\/em><\/p>\n<p><strong>ANNAPOLIS, MD<\/strong>\u2014Governor Larry Hogan today submitted a\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/governor.maryland.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/FINAL-Supplemental-No.-4.pdf\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" data-saferedirecturl=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/url?q=https:\/\/governor.maryland.gov\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/FINAL-Supplemental-No.-4.pdf&amp;source=gmail&amp;ust=1616096406104000&amp;usg=AFQjCNFfcvDW_qdQuNlogENJABNpqd3wkg\">$1.08 billion supplemental budget<\/a>\u00a0for Fiscal Year 2022 that expands critical rental assistance programs, restores key funding for transportation infrastructure projects, and increases funding for minority-serving colleges and universities.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Rental Assistance.<\/strong>\u00a0Based on the recommendations of a bipartisan advisory group, the supplemental budget allocates federal emergency rental assistance of $258 million, including:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>$193 million<\/strong>\u00a0through the Maryland Eviction Prevention Partnership, which supports local rental and utility assistance programs. An additional $143 million in federal assistance was allocated directly to eight jurisdictions with populations over 200,000. All local programs are expected to be open for tenants and landlords no later than May 1, and some are currently accepting applications. Prospective applicants are encouraged to check with their local jurisdiction for more information.<\/li>\n<li><strong>$40 million<\/strong>\u00a0through\u00a0the Assisted Housing Relief Program, which serves rental units in multifamily projects financed by DHCD\u2019s Community Development Administration using state funds or federal resources. Applications for the program are expected to open in mid-April.<\/li>\n<li><strong>$20 million<\/strong>\u00a0will be reserved, so that it can be rapidly deployed based on need as the programs roll out.<\/li>\n<li><strong>$5 million<\/strong>\u00a0for program case management, administration, and outreach to ensure eligible landlords and tenants, including minority populations and those in especially hard-hit areas, are aware of the relief.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u201cMore than half a billion dollars has been dedicated to helping renters in need since the beginning of the pandemic,\u201d said Governor Hogan. \u201cWith one of the strongest eviction moratoriums in the nation in place, we have been able to help Marylanders stay in their homes. This relief is another essential part of bringing back economic security for thousands of residents.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe governor\u2019s supplemental budget will ensure that this relief will be distributed in an equitable manner to those across the state who need it most,\u201d said Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Kenneth C.
