{"id":10080,"date":"2020-07-20T13:00:07","date_gmt":"2020-07-20T17:00:07","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/?p=10080"},"modified":"2020-07-20T12:38:29","modified_gmt":"2020-07-20T16:38:29","slug":"hogan-administration-announces-2-3-million-in-first-round-of-maryland-eviction-prevention-partnership-grants","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dhcd\/2020\/07\/20\/hogan-administration-announces-2-3-million-in-first-round-of-maryland-eviction-prevention-partnership-grants\/","title":{"rendered":"Hogan Administration Announces $2.3 Million in First Round of Maryland Eviction Prevention Partnership Grants"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center\"><b>Hogan Administration Announces $2.3 Million in First Round of <\/b><b>Maryland Eviction Prevention Partnership Grants<br \/>\n<\/b><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Eight counties awarded funding to assist renters during COVID-19 Pandemic<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><b>NEW CARROLLTON, MD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> (July 20, 2020) \u2013 Governor Larry Hogan today announced eight counties will receive more than $2.3 million in the first round of Maryland Eviction Prevention Partnership grants.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThese awards reinforce my administration\u2019s strong support for ensuring Marylanders stay safe and secure in their homes during the COVID-19 pandemic,\u201d said Governor Hogan. \u201cWe are dedicated to assisting counties in their efforts to prevent eviction during these tough economic times.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development will administer the grants, funded by the federal Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) program. The $2.3 million distribution is the first wave of funding in the Hogan Administration\u2019s promised $30 million program to prevent evictions across the state. These efforts, combined with the additional $30 million in efforts of local governments, represent more than $60 million dedicated to providing rental assistance for Marylanders.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The national CDBG program was enacted into law by Congress as part of the Housing and Community Development Act of 1974. For 45 years, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) program has supported community redevelopment, affordable housing, and the expansion of economic opportunities, principally for persons of low and moderate income. The program is a vital resource for Maryland\u2019s counties, cities, and towns in their efforts to provide critical services to their residents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe Community Development Block Grant has been an important federal resource in Maryland,\u201d said Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Kenneth C.
