PUBLIC NOTICE: Tenant Selection Plan Training for Housing Providers

The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD), through the Community Development Administration (CDA), will host a virtual training session for housing providers regarding CDA’s tenant selection policy and screening requirements.

In August 2024, CDA implemented a policy requiring housing providers receiving CDA funding to use CDA’s tenant selection criteria when screening tenants. This training will help property owners and managers understand how to implement these requirements.

The training, presented in partnership with the Vera Institute of Justice, will cover:

• Criminal record screening procedures
• How screening policies interact with the Fair Housing Act
• Guidance on conducting an Individualized Assessment when reviewing applicant records
