Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Announces $1.75 Million in 2026 Community Investment Tax Credit Awards
Funding will help local nonprofit organizations across Maryland continue social service, community revitalization, and economic development efforts
NEW CARROLLTON, MD (January 26, 2026) – The Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development announced it has awarded $1.75 million in Fiscal Year 2026 tax credits to projects across the state as part of the Community Investment Tax Credit program.
The Community Investment Tax Credit program supports nonprofit organizations involved in community and economic revitalization activities. Nonprofit organizations use the tax credits as incentives for individuals and businesses to donate money, goods or real property to support operational and programmatic costs associated with projects that serve communities across Maryland.
“The Community Investment Tax Credit empowers local nonprofits to secure donations that support their service to Marylanders and the creation of lovable places across our state – from the construction of a new affordable, energy-efficient neighborhood in Cambridge to pediatric care for children and youth experiencing homelessness in Baltimore City,” said Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day. “These important partnerships create stronger neighborhoods where children and families can thrive and where residents and community organizations are investing in a shared future.”
Businesses and individuals that donate to a qualified organization’s approved project can earn tax credits equal to 50% of the value of the money, goods, or real property contribution. These tax credits are in addition to the deductions on both Federal and State taxes as a result of the charitable contribution. The program has leveraged nearly $34 million in charitable contributions to approximately 845 projects across the state since its inception.
70 awards were made in the Fiscal Year 2026 round to organizations in 22 jurisdictions, including:
- Rehoboth Community Development: capital and operating support for the redevelopment of Patapsco Place, an affordable senior housing community in the Brooklyn neighborhood of Baltimore City.
- Lifestyles of Maryland Foundation: operating support for the Foundation’s Basic Needs Distribution Center, which provides clothing and furniture and other items to support the self-sufficiency of low-income and homeless households. (Charles County)
- Housing Initiative Partnership, Inc.: operating support to assist clients exiting homelessness, including providing rental support and intensive coaching to ensure they can remain in permanent housing. (Prince George’s County)
- Parent’s Place of Maryland: operating support to provide assistance and advocacy training for families on the Lower Eastern Shore who have children with disabilities and special healthcare needs. (Queen Anne’s County)
