DHCD Day Trips Tour Highlights Revitalization Efforts across Baltimore County

Thursday’s visit was the latest stop in DHCD’s effort to connect with Maryland’s communities

TOWSON, MD (November 30, 2023) — Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development Secretary Jake Day continued DHCD’s statewide Day Trips tour today with a stop in Baltimore County.

Thursday’s stop was the latest in DHCD’s planned visits to reach community leaders, business owners and residents to learn how the department can help improve housing opportunities and economic development in the area.

“The best way for us to truly understand the needs of Marylanders is to go where they live and work to listen to the people who shape their community on a daily basis,” said DHCD Secretary Jake Day. “This department has worked well with Baltimore County’s leaders to support the County’s visions in the past. I look forward to continuing that partnership, because Baltimore County’s success is key to enabling Maryland to ‘Win the Decade.’”

DHCD has provided more than $73 million to Baltimore County in the last three fiscal years to create attainable housing, develop safe, lovable places and close the digital divide.

“Our administration remains focused on doing all we can to expand economic opportunity and make sure that every family can find a safe place to call home,” said Baltimore County Executive Johnny Olszewski. “We are thrilled to welcome Secretary Day to Baltimore County and look forward to sharing ideas and identifying opportunities for collaboration so we can continue to deliver the investments and initiatives that will make our neighborhoods stronger for years to come.”

Thursday’s visit started at Roggenart Bistro & Café in Towson and continued with stops at several places that will provide new housing in several parts of the county, including Ridgedale in Rosedale and Turner Station in Dundalk, as well as a visit to Downtown Dundalk, a designated Main Street Maryland community.

The tour wrapped up at Towson University, where the Secretary and senior staff met with area stakeholders to talk about the challenges Baltimore County faces with homelessness, affordable housing and economic development.

DHCD will visit Howard County in December as the next stop of DHCD’s Day Trips tour.
