Today\u2019s graduates are the first class of CMPO Green Purchasing Specialists.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThe procurement process is ever-changing and the information provided in these certifications programs helps our procurement officers grow a better understanding of the changes allowing them to enhance Maryland\u2019s procurement efficiencies,\u201d said DGS Secretary Ellington E. Churchill. \u201cDGS has always been committed to saving energy, reducing operating costs, and creating a healthier planet. What better way to do that than buying green.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The CMPO Green Purchasing Specialization is an 8-contact hour certification offered through the Maryland Procurement Academy to Maryland State procurement professionals who have successfully completed the CMPO certification and want to gain a deeper knowledge of environmentally preferable or \u201cgreen\u201d purchasing practices.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This specialization consists of four live 2-hour training sessions, and weekly assignments. Candidates must attend each live session and participate in group activities and discussions. Finally, candidates must synthesize their knowledge and pass a final assessment before earning their Green Purchasing Specialist certification.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cThis specialization is for our top certified State Procurement Officers to be leaders in their agencies in understanding and conducting environmentally preferable procurements,\u201d said the Office of State Procurement\u2019s Chief Procurement Officer Michael Zimmerman. \u201cThis will allow them to lead others in the state to procure products and services that have a lesser or reduced effect on human health and the environment.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The department trained and certified 19 procurement professionals from 11 state agencies and programs across the state including:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Cannabis Commission<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of General Services<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Human Services<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Juvenile Services<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Labor<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of the Military<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Natural Resources\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland Department of Public Safety and Correctional Services<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland State Treasurer<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland State Judiciary\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Starting next year, the Maryland Procurement Academy will be offering the Green Purchasing Specialist certification 4 times a year, along with additional upcoming specializations such as Information Technology and Professional Services.<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><a href=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/10\/DSC_0633-scaled.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\" wp-image-4443 aligncenter\" src=\"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/10\/DSC_0633-300x200.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"501\" height=\"334\" srcset=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/10\/DSC_0633-300x200.jpg 300w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/10\/DSC_0633-1024x683.jpg 1024w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/10\/DSC_0633-768x512.jpg 768w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/10\/DSC_0633-1536x1024.jpg 1536w, https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2022\/10\/DSC_0633-2048x1365.jpg 2048w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 501px) 100vw, 501px\" \/><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">###<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About DGS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: The Department of General Services is responsible for essential services and programs administered on behalf of the state, including procuring goods and services; designing, building, leasing, managing and maintaining facilities; leading energy conservation efforts; administering the state\u2019s Capital Grants Program; and providing essential services such as fuel management, disposition of surplus property and records management.
