This is the first lease to be approved as a part of the overall effort to move 12 state agencies out of the State Center campus.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cDGS is excited about the approval of SDAT\u2019s lease, as this move will be greatly beneficial for Baltimore\u2019s central business district,\u201d said DGS Secretary Ellington E. Churchill, Jr. \u201cAs we continue to move forward with the governor\u2019s plan to reposition our state buildings in Baltimore, it is my hope that this project will inspire others to participate in the revitalization and transformation of Baltimore\u2019s central business district.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The BPW approved a lease for 47,391 square feet at 700 E. Pratt Street in Baltimore City to house the agency\u2019s 208 employees. This new location in the heart of the Central Business District will provide state employees with modern and efficient workspace as well as access to enhanced on-site and outdoor amenities including a fitness center, restaurants, and other retail options. DGS negotiated a rental abatement for the first year of the new lease term, representing savings to taxpayers in the amount of $1,161,079.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cSDAT is excited to be relocating our State Center office personnel to Baltimore\u2019s Central Business District, and we are proud to be part of downtown\u2019s revitalization efforts,\u201d said SDAT Director Michael Higgs. \u201cThis move will not only provide our employees with upgraded work conditions, but most importantly it will allow the department to provide more streamlined service to customers who use our in-person filing services.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">This lease approval supports Governor Hogan\u2019s April 2021 <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/2021\/04\/26\/general-services-announces-rfp-to-secure-a-new-headquarters-location-for-the-maryland-department-of-human-services\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">announcement<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400\"> to positively impact the Central Business District through the relocation of more than 3,000 state employees, as well as helps to move the State Center Campus another step forward to redevelopment.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">###<\/span><\/p>\n<p><b>About DGS<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">: The Department of General Services is responsible for essential services and programs administered on behalf of the state, including procuring goods and services; designing, building, leasing, managing and maintaining facilities; leading energy conservation efforts; administering the state\u2019s Capital Grants Program; and providing essential services such as fuel management, disposition of surplus property and records management.
