{"id":3649,"date":"2019-07-17T09:30:14","date_gmt":"2019-07-17T13:30:14","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/?p=3649"},"modified":"2019-07-18T08:57:07","modified_gmt":"2019-07-18T12:57:07","slug":"hogan-administration-announces-8-3-million-in-federal-surplus-delivered-to-marylanders-in-need-in-1st-half-of-2019","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/news.maryland.gov\/dgs\/2019\/07\/17\/hogan-administration-announces-8-3-million-in-federal-surplus-delivered-to-marylanders-in-need-in-1st-half-of-2019\/","title":{"rendered":"Hogan Administration Announces $8.3 Million in Federal Surplus Delivered to Marylanders in Need in 1st Half of 2019"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Department of General Services &amp; the Governor\u2019s Office of Community Initiatives Works with Federal Program to Secure Surplus Resources<\/span><\/i><i><\/i><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><b>ANNAPOLIS, MD<\/b><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u00a0\u2013 The Hogan administration today announced that in the first half of 2019, the Maryland Department of General Services (DGS), which is the agency of record in the State of Maryland for the Federal Surplus Personal Property Donation Program, and the Governor\u2019s Office of Community Initiatives secured and delivered more than $8.3 million in federal surplus property to Marylanders in need, public schools, non-profit organizations, municipal agencies, federally certified 8(a) firms, and local communities.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur administration has been a strong leader in our work with the federal surplus property program by proactively finding opportunities to bring food, school supplies, computers, and other resources directly into Maryland communities that are in need of assistance,\u201d said Governor Larry Hogan. \u201cWe will continue to explore ways to help our citizens through this successful and unique partnership.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cOur department is committed to building an active network that connects Maryland citizens and non-profits in a beneficial way to government services and programs,&#8221; said DGS Secretary Ellington E. Churchill, Jr. \u201cBy being proactive and actively connecting with our federal partners, DGS is able to bring valuable resources directly to Maryland communities and businesses.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">\u201cI am proud we have the interagency efficiency, readiness, and capacity to manage emergencies Marylanders face,\u201d said Executive Director Steven J. McAdams of the Governor\u2019s Office of Community Initiatives. \u201cUnder Governor Hogan\u2019s leadership, collaboration and coordination across federal and state agencies is truly helping to change Maryland for the better.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The following is a list of the federal surplus property that was secured by the Hogan Administration during the first half of 2019 from federal agencies, including the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and the General Services Administration (GSA), and then delivered throughout the state between April and July of this year:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Baltimore City Public Schools:<\/span><b>\u00a0\u00a0<\/b><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Coppin Academy High School (55 Dell desktop computers)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dickeyville Elementary\/Middle School (55 Dell desktop computers)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Thomas Jefferson Elementary Middle (55 Dell desktop computers)<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Federal Property Transfers that included office furniture, Meals Ready-to-Eat (MREs), Dasani Bottled Water, and other surplus property were delivered to the following nonprofit organizations, federally certified 8(a) businesses, universities, and local agencies, including volunteer fire and police departments, during the second quarter of 2018:\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"list-style-type: none\">\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Anne Arundel County Food Bank (three truckloads of MREs and 16,000 liters of Dasani Bottled Water)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Arbutus Volunteer Fire Department of Baltimore County (four miscellaneous vessels)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">A Wider Circle (various pieces of furniture)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Baltimore American Indian Center &amp; Heritage Museum (various pieces of furniture)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Department of Public Safety &amp; Correctional Services (various pieces of furniture)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Dorchester County Department of Health (11 sharps kits) <\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Frederick Rescue Mission (16,000 liters of Dasani bottled water)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Home Based Medical, Inc. (Ford 150 pick-up truck)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Hope for All (various pieces of furniture)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Maryland State Board of Elections (various pieces of furniture)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Monument Enterprises, LLC (fork-lift)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Org of Hope\/Bridging Hope (various pieces of furniture)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">The Marching Elite Foundation (two drums)\u00a0<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Western Maryland Food Bank (truckload of MREs and 16,000 liters of Dasani bottled water)<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400\">Women Empowered to Achieve the Impossible Inc.
