They range from building design and construction to preventative maintenance operations and from renovations to historic structures to state park improvements. The Enoch Pratt Library is just one of FPDC&#8217;s numerous projects.<\/p>\n<p>The library is an iconic Baltimore landmark. Constructed in the 1930s, it is a fine example of neo-classical design and is well known for both its architectural beauty and elaborate original decorative interior finishes. It has had two additions in the last 30 years but has never undergone a comprehensive renovation\/restoration.<\/p>\n<p>DGS is managing renovations to the 300,000, four-story structure, which include all building systems and restoration and conservation of original artwork and decorative finishes. With a construction budget of $86.5 million, the DGS design team moved forward in 2015 to develop drawings. Gilbane Construction was selected to provide construction management services for the duration of the project. It should be noted that the 30% Minority Business Enterprise participation goal was exceeded, representing <strong><em>economic development and jobs<\/em><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Construction work began in June 2016 and will be completed in May 2019. The unique character of the library will be maintained, and it will remain open during interior-wide renovations.\u00a0Original interior and exterior materials are being cleaned, restored and preserved. Renovations will incorporate current trends in library services and technology for enhanced customer use in an environment that will accommodate a diverse public.<\/p>\n<p>It\u2019s exciting to be part of a project that preserves history while giving it a much-needed 21<sup>st<\/sup> century facelift,\u201d said Lauren Buckler, Assistant Secretary of Facilities Planning, Design and Construction. \u201cIt will <strong><em>improve the quality of life<\/em><\/strong> for visitors and the City of Baltimore alike.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Facilities Planning, Design &amp; Construction (FPDC) division manages projects statewide.
